Ok. A really nice very similar car exact same colors sold around here last year for $14K and it had 20K miles on it. Resale on these cars isn't all that good.

I most certainly agree about their resale value. But I'll tell you what, these cars were 60k+, and are a bit of a hidden deal in my opinion as so many think they are all junk.

I mean, killer leather, good suspension, Brembo brakes, a supercharged 400HP engine... for 10-15k? Sign me up.

And for those of you who want to hang their hats on Mercedes, BMW, VW, Lexus...whatever, let me tell you something, go visit those forums and read about the nightmares that exist on some models/years, etc.

E320 Mercedes? Nice car for sure, wait until it jumps a cam tooth, quite common and north of 4k to fix. Buddy has an AMG 55 Compressor, super fast full blown AMG but he's about 4k lighter from repairs over the last 10 months. How about a nice VW Passat with the 3.6 V6? Nope, drops oil pump bolts and grenades engines enough for a class action suit to be formed. BMW's? I've had several including an M3. Love em, but you will spend plenty there too. What until you have VANOS munch things up. While generally good cars they are still expensive to own.

My point is, they all have defects, some worse than other...try a Land Rover on for size, head gaskets are one guarantee somewhere betwen 60 and 120k miles, LR will relieve you of 2-3k to fix that. I can go on and on, my Dodge MegaCab Cummins had A/C issues that nearly wore me out....always at the hottest days too.

We will see how I feel in 6 months or a year but I'm tickled to have what I bought and for the money. I have over twice as much in my 69 Camaro but I guarantee you I'll have more fun, more often in this Jag!

I'm not going to tell you guys what I paid for it, might make you other STR owners cry.
Congrats! She looks beautiful. Looks like you'll need a front passenger lower plastic insert around the fog light, its missing. But other than that everything looks nice and clean. Ohh since we're playing the guessing game on the price you paid, I'll say $12,400

I've had my 03 for almost 7 months now, and the only thing to go wrong was a $55 coil.

Thanks, I saw the missing light surround too, he's already replaced it, was cracked.

Price? Yep.. it had one, everything does.

Now I'm already thinking... Mafioso Best intake, maybe some Mina muffs... oh gotta have the bottom ss grilles from Mina too. I'm keeping my leaper though, I dig the cat. Maybe some smoked lenses...maybe. How about some insight in to good ECM tunes? How about something crazy like some forged Boze wheels? I wonder what kind of look a more aggressive wheel might give? It's tough on these S Types, such elegant lines, not really a sporty design per se.

Boze has a few XJ's in their Jag gallery, nothing that really grabs me though. I'd probably stick with 18's, keep a decent ride. This 5 series has pretty soft lines and looks good with these:

Anyone know of any cars here that have something similar installed?

ECU tune is an easy thing to do.

1) find a deserted road
2) undo the negative battery cable
3) briefly touch to positive cable (discharge caps)
4) reconnect neg cable
5) turn car on and make sure it is sport mode
6) floor the car upto 70ish

Now your ecu is tuned. Anyone else that says they can tune it is a crook.

Dont even remind me of heat. I had to get my windows tinted and I'm only in North Carolina. I guess sitting in the desert heat, cooking roman noodles in ziplock baggies just putting it on our dark green vehicles and then watching the water boil in Afghanistan really makes me hate the heat. But hell it sure beats the snow.
Congrats on the STR. Looks nice. If you pass by NC and you need a pit stop hit me up or at least wave to I can wave back.

....Is this the same thing as disconnecting both the neg and pos terminals and touching them together to discharge the capacitors;basically a hard ECU reset, right?

Congrats! We have the same car. I've had mine since November, I've spent a lot of "elective" money on her, but she's been reliable with no mechanical issues. I wonder if yours has the differential whine or it was taken care of. That can be annoying at times, but supposedly doesn't affect the longevity. Let's seem some pics when you get it.

When I say an ECM tune what I mean is a remap. Someone has to have come up with a map that makes more power over stock.

Nope. Plenty of people will try to sell you one, but no one can show before and after dynos or back up their claims.

That's amazing. I see there are quite a few place in the UK that advertise, I haven't investigated any of them.

I figured there were several here in the US.

Are you by any chance Pilipino? I luv eating Munggo Guisado,Maruya I and of course Adobong Baboy while I was there in Manila few years back, the women were waayyy to friendly which took me off guard, but overall the culture is amazing. Would definitely go back if I have another chance
Hey I'm Filipino and just spent 4 weeks in Jan. after being away for over 20 years and even I was caught off-guard by the freindly women... but it's all good. I'll be back but would love to check out the rest of the islands.

Oh and congrats and welcome to the Jaguar R-experence, American! You're gonna love it. Mina muffs/pulleys/K&N and now Mafioso's intake and nothing can touch you when the light turns green sitting on the front row at a stoplight. Get used to the stares and scowls. haha.

Those are fairly unusual wheels already.

American, something I learned about Mina if you haven't heard. CALL Chris rather than making internet purchases, he is a great guy and will give you better pricing on phone orders.

Great stuff from them, shipping is a wee bit slow though, even on stocked items.

Looks like you been played guys ! Looks like American pulled off a quick one on ya'll. I was going to buy this car a month ago, deal was pending for $12,500, but the original owner never went thru with the deal. This car has a major history of problems. I wouldn't be surprised if American bought it for 12,500 if it was true. I wouldn't even pay $10k for it due to the problems it has.
