And what might those 'major' problems be? It had a new ZF trans from Jag installed in January ($6800.00!). New rotors/pads from Jaguar. I have full service history from dealers....called them. Had an ECM replaced (same time as trans), some new keys, fuel pump. CarFax is clean, no wrecks or other issues. That's about it. The owner obviously didn't mind spending money at the dealership on it instead of having the trans rebuilt. He spent about 9k in the past several years on it, most of that the trans, 1300.00 ticket for keys and some other minor small stuff... loose rear view mirror, things like that. I have records going back to early 05 with a pretty good trail until Jan 11 that also corresponds to the same dealers for oil changes etc that show up on CarFax.

You sure you didn't buy this one too? Why stop at only 2 STRs bought? Make it a hat trick....

American, pay no attention to him, his cred is pretty shot.

No sweat. I'm the new guy here but I'm pretty thorough with researching vehicles and people. Long distance deals are always risky so you have to rely on a paper trail, that doesn't mean that he couldn't have run over something then taken it to a third party to fix without an insurance claim but that has not been his habit... someone who spends 6800.00 to do a factory trans isn't averse to spending money on fixing something correctly.

You aren't just looking for black and white facts but also patterns or lack of them.

So true. I bought mine in South Carolina and I made sure it had all the records with it. So far so good as the only problem was a coil pack, but those are common of going bad.

Being a one owner car makes it much easier to track down and with CarFax, the voluntary release of records to me and me calling the dealers to make sure I have ALL of the records, which I did, and fill in a few gaps with CarFax, oil changes, inspections, etc... it's pretty easy to get a good service picture.

It was leased then he bought out the lease, don't think I'd keep a lemon once the lease is up do you? He even had the 30k inspection done at 25k miles.

I just don't see any flaky maintenance history traits in this vehicle.

Just droopy lights to deal with and I'll carry two #8 x 1" screws with me and borrow a drill, 1/8" bit and a screwdriver before I hit the road. If I get there and it has other issues well.. .guess I'll have to find a way back to Texas!

Unreal.

Not to keep beating a dead horse but this guy has been lieing since he got here. His advice should just be removed from this thread. This is jaguar 007 I'm talking about.
Pushing-Tin has a point here I just wanted to add that he has lied three times. He claims he has an 03 V8 S type yet in the post about taking pics of your odometer to show off your mileage he posted a pic of his 05+ odometer showing his mileage. I didnt really think twice about it till his last thread. I'm curious how much it cost to do a swap like that.
No offense jaguar007 I think you cred is shot around here for giving any sort of advice so if you want info on S types if I was you I would just become a lurker. You can also save your threats of me coming to your house. Ive been through alot worse places then some bad neighborhood in MS. That threat wouldnt make one hair on my neck stand up especially after working in the eastside of Detroit and going to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Alright I'm off my soapbox.

Here's Johnny...

Don't want to dilute or hijack guys, but the Spidey senses are a tingling, if you understand my parlance.

Subscribed.

An STR is somewhere over the rainbow for me right now, but I gain pleasure from reading and learning about them from you guys, genuinely in the know.

Couldn't agree more, he has all the characteristics of a sociopath. Where is the ignore button here?

You know when you join some people that you don't know that well and they start talking about things that you know are an inside joke and you just sit there with a stupid grin on your face not knowing WTF anyone is talking about? Yeah.. that's me right now.

Didn't mean to bring drama along...just trying to buy a car.

Anyway.. moving right along.

I can assure you that this trip will be full of interesting moments, to say the least, I setup a blog at http://rowagent.blogspot.com and added a Blogger app to my Droid X for the trip so I can upload photos and posts along with our location as we progress. Should be interesting.

Oh...and I'll warn you now, what I post may not be family friendly and there is a distinct chance of random nudity, drunkeness, and general disregard for local traffic laws. (not necessarily all at the same time). I mean, two good ol Texas boys on a trip to Pennsylvania to pickup a Jaguar and go work the natural gas fields then going on tour back to Texas... if that ain't the makings of a good story what is? Trust me, where we are there will be good times.

Having an interest in buying an S-Type will help keep things ticking along with reduced Spidey stuff, I expect. But no real harm in a few jokes along the way

I mean nothing bad to any genuine S-Typers!
