Hello everyone, new guy here....

I'm looking at buying an '01 S-Type with 93K mi. It's really clean and looks well cared for but I don't know much about them and have some questions.... I know they have a lot of Ford parts, and I'm a Ford guy...

1. Is the 3.0 engine about the same as the 3.0 in my Mercury Sable? 5 spd auto is the same as 2000's T-Birds or Mustangs?

2. I'm knowledgeable about doing most of my own maintenance, but what parts are known to be very expensive to replace?

3. Overall, are these very reliable? I put over 230K mi on my old Sable and it still runs great. I drive 190 mi each way twice a month for work.

Any help is truly appreciated, thanks...

If you buy the car expect to pay out as that age and milage is going to need something doing.

The 2003-and-newer S-Types will cost you less to maintain and repair. The general advice from us long-time S-Type owners is to purchase a 2003 or later. The newer you can afford, the better off you'll be in the long run....

As you've already been advised, do the necessary reading here on the forum. An educated buyer always makes better decisions....

 

Thanks for the help. Yes, I know how to use search... I've already done some reading. I think I'll pass on the Jag for now. I'll stick with something I know and get a Mustang for driving to work....
