Default Looking to do a Differential Service, how many quarts do I need?

Can anyone tell me exactly how many quarts I would need of gear oil to do a Differential service. Most shops are charging 150-300. My mechanic said if I bring my own gear oil he would charge me 50 bucks to do it. thanks guys.

You will need 2quarts of 75W140 synthetic transmission oil(you will use about 1.25 litres).Note there is no drain plug on the diff housing--you will need a small pump to remove the dirty oil.

I had my differential oil changed for $89 at Oil Can Henry's in Oregon the day I picked up my 2005 4.2 VDP a month and a half ago. I had them do an oil change with the Amsoil Signature 5W30 and NAPA Gold filter I had bought, and they sold me on the diff service, which I figured was a good idea at 8.5 years and 70k miles. (The diff had made a bit of a faint whine occasionally before that -- my brother had the car previously and I remember hearing it. No more whine.) Oil Can Henry's used the proper 75W140 synthetic gear oil. They used a pump. I even got a free flush out of it since they filled it with the wrong oil first, then pumped all that out and refilled with the 75W140 synthetic. (They caught the error, not me. Very honest shop -- located in south Salem, Oregon, in case anyone lives there.) Looks like I got a bargain.
