Default Loose fuel cap

I let my son pump gas last time we filled up. He left the fuel filler cap loose and the next day I got an indicator light and message on the dash. The check engine light was also on. I stopped the car and tightened the cap. Te indicator lamp went off and the message was gone from the display, but the check engine symbol is still lit.

Do I have to do something to turn it off or do I have another issue?

It needs a couple more drive cycles and then should self-clear. Code will remain stored for ages so clear it if you're bothered. Any cheap OBD tool. Now so cheap really everyone should get one...

I was always under the impression that OBDII will self clear after three drive cycles, meaning running in closed loop, without the fault present.
