Default Low mileage

Hey, everybody keeping the miles down on their S-Type? I just turned 62K this morning.

I got the car in 2013 with 48K. Since then I have had to replace the headlamps (one total, two low beam bulbs, one igniter). I've also done pads/rotors, replaced the damn radio amp in the trunk, flushed the tranny, got a new battery, and replaced a crummy set of original wheels with 18" XF wheels. I also replaced both front fender liners that were all cracked and split.

Other than that, things are good :-)

If you drove it more, you could enjoy the functionality of all that stuff before having to replace it....

No explanation for your amp failure, but I reckon the only S-types that don't need brake-work between 48K-62K miles are the ones that had brake-work in the 20K-48K range. Your original battery was 5-7 yrs old during your ownership, so time to replace anyway.

In my opinion, it's a bit early for your fender liners to go, but that may be a function of your harsh winter road conditions. Also my opinion, but I think you pulled the trigger a bit early on a xmsn fluid change...unless you had a leak or other extenuating circumstance...but it certainly hasn't impacted anything negatively (except your wallet) to do so.

If you slip out to the garage, and ask in a friendly, quiet voice, I'm sure she'll tell you she needs to get out more....

Actually, I'm pretty stoked about how it is holding up. Granted the headlamps are a royal pain for us all, but everything else is holding up really well. Much, much better than the X-Type I had before.

As far as mileage goes, I guess I'm just lucky to have a fairly short commute so most of my miles are pleasure miles.

I got mine with 44,000 a year ago. Now 56,000. I've replaced a lot of parts as just old enough to need it. Brake system, coolant tanks, every filter on the car, and switched to synthetic oil. I agree about the wheels. Awful to clean and I think the world is sick of silver paint. I did change all the lugs to one piece. (Best thing you can do).

The amp in the back may have a bad plug. Mine came loose and was giving me an engine roar through the speakers. The amp would have gone soon without making the plug unable to move (zip tie and dialectic grease).

My projects for 2016 will be timing tensioners and new gaskets and WHEELS. Foose (Carid), Coventry, and Vision make some cool wheels for S Types.
