LSDs, and codes
I've been reading alot of stuff about the problems with installing LSDs in S-Types, and most of the problems cited involve throwing codes.
Aside from the irritating 'check engine' light (or whatever happens in S-Types with codes), what are the negative effects? Will a LSD actually somehow fit and function in this car? Do these codes cause some sort of latent effect, such as entering into a 'limp home' mode of sorts?

The codes was more of an E diff issue. If you were to try and fit an E diff from the XFR you would have a problem from all the electronics that are involved. As far as just a normal diff you shouldnt have a code problem at all. The problem is finding a LSD that is gonna fit and work properly in the pumpkin of the STR. If it is the same size as the 8.8 Ford then there wouldn't be a problem at all. The problem is no one really knows. The first gen LS's had 8" rears but you could actually fit an 8.8 diff in. I believe ours are the same as the second gen LS's but the gearing looks to be different and they dont have LSD's either. I'm still trying to find a salvaged LS rear end or an S type that I can rip open and do some measurement to see if we have options.

If you go back to the start of this Jag forum and read from the git go, there has been talk of LSD and I'm sure it started with the release of the first STR in 03 in the US, nothing happened yet.
There is much talk lately about many mods and the guys seem to think they are the first to try things (exhaust, blower, pulley ect.)but many have come before them and most have left after finding they have made their cars unreliable and ended up selling them.A few guys really tried but in the end they sold and moved on to American muscle that also breaks but aftermarket parts are more available and cheaper to buy.
Just my opinion......My stock STR is very enjoyable and quite reliable
