Lug nuts and wrench- Arrrgh!
I mounted my winter wheels and tires yesterday and used the Jaguar supplied lug nut wrench for the first, and very last time. What an absolute piece of ****! I rounded off one nut and destroyed the sheet metal cap on another before switching to my standard universal wrench that I've used since the 70's. None of the lug nuts were over-torqued nor were they seized, just the wrench/nut comb is of poor design and manufacturing.
Thankfully I was not stuck on the side of the road trying to fix a flat- I would have been unable to remove any of the nuts using the standard wrench.
In looking at the archives it appears that I'm not the only one that's come across the shortcomings of the wrench and unusual design of the nuts themselves. I'm reticent to spend $40.00 on gas going to a dealer to buy a few new lug nuts and am confused about the offerings on eBay for replacements, none appear to retain the wheels in the same manner as the OEM nuts.
Can someone point me to a known good source please?

Again, you post with no information of any kind for us to help you? Why do people assume everyone knows what car you have?? Jaguar used several different lug nuts depending on year and wheel. Yes they have a crappy sheet metal cover. These style lug nuts are used on many different brands of cars. Search the forum and you will find several replacement aftermarket ones people have used. They are mostly the solid type construction.

These two-piece acorn-style OEM lug nuts are indeed crap. Chrysler uses the same lousy two-piece construction. I replaced my OEM Dodge Ram lug nuts with some fantastic solid-piece lug nuts from McGard a number years ago. They have been great and they do not rust, period. I intend to replace our OEM S-Type lug nuts but have not gotten around to it yet. My local McGard supplier is concerned with the flange-type design of the OEM Jaguar lug nut and wants to see it along with our rims before he will order a set of McGard lug nuts for our car. The McGard regular cone seat chrome lug nuts are McGard part number 64002. They come in 4-packs for about $13 per 4-pack and are guaranteed for life not to rust. But as I said, my supplier must see our car in person before he is willing to sell me ANY solid lug nuts for this car. Because of the OEM nut's flange, the designs may be too different and therefore considered unsafe. I simply have not had a chance to run the S-Type downtown to him so he can take a look and then make the decision on whether or not these McGards will be safe in our particular application....
