Hi,
New member here to the forum. I tried searching for this issue in the last 30 mins and reading the FAQ but couldn't find similar problem posted. I was hoping to get some advice. I noticed some people have the lurching problem when slowing down withe the ZF transmission, but my car lurches when speeding up. I also don't know if I have the ZF transmission or not.
My car is 2000 S-Type 3.0L
When the car is cold, it would sometimes lurch fairly aggressively when it shifts from 1st gear to 2nd gear. It doesn't do it every time and it goes away when the car warms up. there are also engine lights so I'm not sure if there are any codes.
Anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks

Welcome! Your "S" has the somewhat problematic Ford 5 speed trans. Perform a trans. fluid/filter swap along with a trans. computer module re-flash. Check the battery for a weak cell, as this can set off a plethora of codes and lights. If the battery is more than four years old, it's likely time for a new battery. Keep us posted. Happy Holidays!

did Jaguar release new firmware for the transmission computer module to make it run better that I need to reflash my tranny with?

As it's the Ford box, I doubt it's caused by software (aka firmware). Could be, but don't count on it. Autobox low/old oil or a spring/solenoid problem are commoner. The "lurch" is very much a common ZF autobox issue.
You can search on 5R55N here to read the usual issues with the Ford box. There have been some TSBs which you'll also find that way - and check the TSB & FAQ forum pages.
