I don't really understand people who want to wrap their car a solid color. The cost to wrap and paint are very similar. Wraps only become attractive cost wise when intricate designs are printed. It's incredibly time consuming to hand paint crazy designs. But you can print them out with minimal design time on a computer.

god... i just don't understand this latest matte fad. ^^^ that right there is a perfect example. it looks cheap and unpainted; like a car primered waiting for its eventual paintjob... this is somehow fashionable?
Maybe because I do pro detailing and love a wet and glossy finish, but i just can't see the appeal in this matte craze...

I am like you and actually am a detailer myself BUT some cars look really good with matte. Personally I don't like the S-type with matte but that is my personal like. I saw a Aston Martin (I think DB9) with a matte black finish and matte black wheels that thing looked sinister!!
Here is a pic of an Aston DBS almost like the one I saw. I think this looks great!

Agreed, some applications def look good and can pull that look off... 99% of the cases I see it in, it just doesn't work. I.E. an S-type trying to replicate that 'sinister' look with plasti-dipped factory 16" wheels only ends up looking cheap as hell; doesn't suit it at all.
Even that XFR posted above with the matte/satin finish still doesn't look right to me... Still has that 'waiting for paint' look,
Issue number 2 with vinyl wrap, is DETAILS. Some corners/edges are VERY hard to get right. A lot of wrap jobs suffer from the 'good from afar, but far from good' effect, where once you take a closer look at some of the details, there is some less than perfect work, you can only do so much with an overlay...
Indeed, a proper paint job costs big $$$, on top of that, isn't reversible back to your factory paint like a wrap is. Furthermore, if you in fact want a matte/satin finish, replicating it with paint is very difficult. I guess thats one benefit of vinyl wrap, its finish is very very even. Vinyl does have its benefits no doubt.
On the flip side, once you scuff or scratch your matte job, there is no 'touching up' or buffing it out. With a traditional finish you can hit it with the buffer multiple times.
An S-type in my opinion, is completely unsuited to the 'murdered out' look. It's already such a grandpa-mobile, doing anything cheesey to it just screams "16 year old trying too hard with hand me down jag"...
