Has anyone installed a stainless mesh grille insert on a 2004 s-type 4.2?
Does it look good and match up cleanly to oval chrome frame after cutting out old grille? I am considering this one from superdials on ebay (attached, along with my existing).
Alternatively, is there compatible mesh grille from another year complete with oval chrome frame and badge that will fit my 2004. And would that be better option?
I have one on my S Type. Check out Mina Gallery.com You can buy it two ways. Just the mesh and you get to cut out the middle or a complete assembly that requires 4 screws to install.
Bought mine on ebay, somewhere under £40. No hard work to fit.
I'm complete novice, results are really worth it.
Did my tooth removal with small dremel, sand papered of rough bits.
Sprayed in freshly cut plastic, where tooth were, with satin black paint
from can. wait to dry, fit insert, then onto car, really simple.
plastic backing plate, sprayed in black with teeth removed. date 6.6.15
teeth from old grille, cut out with little hand dremel. date 6.6.15.
Thanks for detailed info sporty! Looks doable. I think I'll give her a go. If the vertical slats on 2004 were chromed, I might leave them. But the stainless mesh is just a great, updated more powerful look.

I agree, plus i have the chrome door mirror covers fitted.
Also the mirror (B post covers, and C post) on the doors.
Clim air, rain window deflectors fitted too.
Spray in my bumper deflectors from orange to silver,
and fitted new clear side repeaters.
Have just purchased 17s hercules alloys to fit.
But think i'll spray them in a (greenish) gold,
should look nice
It came with the car when i bought it, never used it.
But, if someone is not very good at backing up, the
car body is safe, lol.
The car had a new gearbox fitted (18000mls) ago, and speedo
reads (21000), they never reset it for sum reason, fitted by a jag dealership.
Purchased it off a guy who was a first rate mechanic, so that side of things
are well sorted.
Some body work needs to be done in the near future, and i'd like a boot
spoiler, at some point, original jaguar item.
Plus the dreaded interior (a pillars) need to be redone, found interior code,
(SDZ) CASHMERE, so will look for fabric soon to,
Its a job list i know, but i like to bond with cars i drive, they become more
special when driving.
One thing missing......chrome surrounds for the lights. They stick on like the mirror covers. Did mine and it really sets off the entire front view. Using an iPad now, or I'd post pics. I even put on a set of chrome surrounds on the tail lights.
Where you put a leaping cat, I added replica "R" badges....only WE know there was no R option for the 4.0 in 2002.
It's a personal statement.

Reason: Spell Check is your friend
This is what I was referring to. Slight additions of chrome around headlights, and fog lights enhance the view without overpowering it. Apologies - but we've had nothing but rain and clouds for the past week.
Couldn't decide on plates, but I love the jaguar key chain for my fob! I saw it on Amazon, nice reviews and surprisingly inexpensive. So if it looks cheesy, I'll just throw it away! Thanks for your help, my Jaguar friend.
