Don't Michelins speak for themselves? We have the Michelin Sports on Joyces Jag and I run Michelin LTX's on my 7,000 lbs. plus SUV.

Love them!

Hi Ian,

I have found the EU system of grading car tyres is quite useful in choosing which tyres to go for.
Pretty much all UK tyres have the ratings applied to them.
I have made tyre good choices by using the guide for what I rate as more or less important in a tyre.

Here it is explained far better than I can.
Full Guide To The EU Tyre Label | Blackcircles.com

I hope that helps.

Footnote,

People might be quite surprised how the better budget brands score higher than some of the big names. As in all things its not just about the brand label.

I found this caution on the tire rack site:

"While Primacy 3 tires are designed to offer reliable traction in dry and wet conditions in warm ambient temperatures, they are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice."

No thanks.

Neither are Jaguars, in general.

I'll be due for a set in 6-9 months. I WAS considering Toyo Proxess, as I had a set on an Infiniti Q45, which is as heavy as a S-Type. Definitely a "hard" tire; I'd want a sport ride, but not feel every poorly patched road repair.

It doesn't mention what a good price is.. I bought 4 new Uniroyal Tiger Paws for $104ea..

The brands Michelin, BF Goodrich, Kleber, Uniroyal* and Riken are all the same company..

What are the standard tyre sizes and loadings for a V6 S type?
On this 2.5 SE its fitted all round with 225/55/ZR16 99W
Sounds about right?

Tyres prices like most car costs vary a great deal depending on where you buy them or where you buy them online.

I've had the best deals from the smaller private tyre bays rather than the larger chain suppliers. But mostly I buy online where I can choose the place they are fitted.

At a guess you fit appropriate tyres for winter.

It is mandatory in some provinces, not in others despite having identical weather conditions.

Standard 'four season' tires are a poor choice for icy conditions and are marginal for anything other than very light snow.

Having two sets of wheels and tires and swapping them in spring/autumn is common place.

Our Jaguars stay safely at home when the snow and ice flies. Our Subaru AWD SUV handles any driving requirements during those times, and it eats up any wintry conditions thrown at it thus far....

I don't recognize the "3" modifier, but ran a set of Primacy on my X300 and a set on the daughter's S-Type. Great choice. Only gripe I had is wet traction got a bit dicey toward the end of service. But that's relative: They were guaranteed for 60k miles and I changed them off the XJ at about 80k. Still wasn't down to the 2/32" considered "worn out" (or is it 3/32"?) but they just required too much attention in the rain at 80k.
Didn't get that much mileage out of the S-Type, but it had alignment and suspension issues and ate up the edges; not the tyre's fault. I've since migrated to Michelin Premier on both cars and I like them even better!

Primacy is a series of tires with all sorts of intended purposes. The 'Primacy MXV4' is all season. The 'Primacy Alpin' is a winter tire. The 'Primacy 3' the OP mentioned is warm weather summer tire only.

Not the best tire for the north of England I would think.

Now that you mention it, I seem to recall having the MXV4

In a not too old thread, the Pilot MXMs on my car, only 3 y.o. and 3k miles, have flat spots form sitting too long. One rear one even feels out laterally. Balancing didn't help and am working with Michelin on warranty but will likely get the brush off.

Anyone else fitted Conti DW (not the DWS) on their car and how/what changes have you noticed? I have my 2nd set on my Forester in the same size as the S takes and wondering how they'd differ from the relatively quiet Pilots. The Contis melt away in~20k but they are almost 1/s price of the Pilots and ride well and hang in since they are a super-hipo summer tire.
