If I wasn't a cheap *** and saw the value in spending $60K, I'd get an used Nissan GT-R (2009 on ebay for $61K buy it now)...The 2009 models have a 3.5 second 0-60 time, the 2012 has a 2.9 second 0-60, there's only a few cars that are quicker and most start with a half-million $$$ MSRP...The GT-R will beat 99.99% of every Porsche, Ferrari and Lambo ever made, and odds are that other .01% that are faster are sitting in someone's private collection and aren't even road registered...lol

All of these modern two seater cars with ultimate performance are just so overwhelmingly fast now that very few owners are capable of driving them at the limit on a track like Watkins Glen. If you make a mistake these cars will kill you quite easily.

I agree; I'm comparing a late model $60K car...I'd find a way to make it suit my needs...The Mrs misses her period? I'll buy a $1000 minivan just to keep the GT-R...lol I hear ya with it being really hard to drive really fast, but compared to most other drivers of high performance cars, they can't drive either...It's additional motivation to learn how to drive it...Lastly, one of the easiest things to do is to romp and the gas from either a stoplight or on the highway and that's where the GT-R is the strongest...
I've seen this happen with other cars that make it seem all to easy at the track.
It's just that the actual speeds and limits now being offered by the latest cars are very high so when a mistake is made it's a really big deal.
All it takes is a bit of oil or coolant on the track or a mistake in your driving and suddenly you're irrecoverably dancing with the guard rail. Out on the open road well it's a lot worse than that.
It's pretty amazing the level of performance you can get today for sub $100K.
What's the insurance like on the big Merc and this Nissan GT-R?

Sounds like he needed a neck brace as I'm certain he's not in the kind of physical shape a modern professional racer is.
You know, you can pick a much more sensible car to drive at that car's limits and still have a hell of a lot of fun doing it.

I did a dummy quote on the following three cars on geico online...I'll show just the comp and collision over 6 months as geico bundles liability, uninsured motorist, etc...So this is the break down of the different cars...
05 STR $260 (comp: $111...col: $149)
10 C63 $394 (comp: $167...col: $227)
10 GT-R $417 (comp: $190...col: $227)
Not that it matters because almost none of us would legally have our licenses after all the speeding tickets or reckless driving charges we'd accrue...

I already have the Z06 2-seater race car for the street, so no point in the GTR. At the end of the day it's still a Nissan anyhow, and I only do V8 cars
I need 4-seater to be able to take friends out and just more room in general. I am thinking of trading in both the XKR and the S-Type R actually now that I think about it. I calculated it wrong, it's going to cost about $400/month more for this car once you factor in insurance. I asked my agent for a quote and it's $210/month without factoring in my almost 150-mph speeding ticket. They have no idea about that yet, and I'm starting to wonder if i should even bother adding another car at this point incase that makes them run a check...???
As far as taking cars to the limit...I can't say ever done that on a track, but on the street I've taken the Z06 up to 180mph and held it there many times, as well as completely sideways drifting an onramp at 80mph quite a number of times. I can probably handle pretty much any car once i get use to it.

Cool. We have much in common.... I drove insane. Just one of too numerous stories...One late night in 1989, whilst driving from Marietta, Georgia with my pooch in a modestly modded 5.0 1983 Mustang GT, I happened upon an 89 Vette on the NJ Turnpike. I goaded him till he decided to go at it. We stayed well into the triple digits for miles. The t-tops, though locked, lifted enough to cause a terrifying shriek of air. The Stang slightly dominated the 285 hp Vette. Sure would have appreciated having his braking system in the event.... I can go on and on.

The merc is a lot of car in the performance department and I love the C63. If you really want a four door to haul your friends around though have you sat in the back of one? It is tight to say the very least! I would go for a older S600/s65 for the money a few mods and you have a 700+hp people hauler
The GTR is a beast. The guy I sold mine to still has it and loves it, personally it got old quick for me. I am not a fan of the way AWD feels in street driving myself although it made for some wicked launches. Car is easy to mod and make stupid power but there was just something about it. I don't buy cars for bling or what toher people think but I don't know maybe at the end of the day it was just to much Nissan?
