Misfire Issues

Marc, I don't know what connectors jag fitted to the O2s on the pre-facelift cars. If the circuit diagram is right then they're the all the same sensors and so the upstream should switch often but the lowers hardly ever. The post-facelifts use the wide-band O2s and the circuit diag shows that, so the earlier diag is probably right.
If you have even a cheap OBD tool you can at least find out which type of O2s they are - even an ELM327 and the free software shows which type. But it doesn't draw graphs so it really is a challenge to do anything other than plausibility checks. Something like EngineCheck should do the graphs. (I'm using AutoEnginuity which doesn't qualify as cheap and doesn't use an Elm327. I've an Elm327 too but only the free software.)
Nice job with the car so far, btw

Sounds like you had a real blast, Marc. Keep us posted as you finish up this project. I always enjoy hearing from folks who are able to find and fix their issues themselves, especially difficult intermittent ones. We can all learn from your exploits with this vehicle....
A good friend of mine who was a tool-and-die expert at one of the GM plants in New Jersey back in the 1970s and 80s has talked about spraying water into the throttle bodies of some of the cars they had back then to clean out the carbon deposits. Made me shudder to think what would happen if you did that to one of these S-Types today. Limp home mode in a heartbeat....

Sorry I don't have an account to post pics to, but I'll be happy to send pics to anyone's personal e-mail and you can post them for others on yours for now.

I know it would be helpfull to people to see how simple I made those new headlight adjusters if they ever need to save a thousand bucks. Many thanks go out to the TECH who posted pics of where all the screws are at to remove the front cap and also spoke of heating up the light assemblys in the oven to 200F to remove the lenses. I might add that I did not use any more sealer to put the lens back on. I want to see if that is really necessary after another 12k or so and report back.
I get a big kick when my neighbors express disbelief when they hear that this car has over 100k and is 10 years old. They all think this is a new car. I don't believe it myself sometimes when she lets me drive it. I keep all my stuff in like new running condition, but this Jag is a different animal. Seeing this thru is helping me make a decision to purchase that 2002 Volvo 18 wheeler up the road that everyone is passing on while the price is still deflated. It has 400,000 miles and has a new Cummings 440 in it. I know it is unrelated, but there's something about certain high end brand names.

My wife took off this morning in her S-Type headed for her parents' home in Tampa. First time she's driven the car on that particular trip since before the August 3rd accident. No additional misfire issues have occurred since the first week of October. I'm still somewhat convinced that the new air filter housing, air filter element, and mass air flow sensor all combined to fix that issue. I still see no evidence of oil leaks from the intake manifold tuner O-rings. The car handled a 400-mile round-trip in late October and a 600-mile round-trip in mid-November with no issues at all. So we'll see how this 1,600-mile round-trip goes with her solo behind the wheel....

That is fantastic Jon. I hope you sleep better now. I know how these things can get you down. We were so HAPPY with ours being so simple to fix with a couple cheap ign coils, we added another one to the stable almost 2 weeks ago.
An immaculate silver & black XKR convertible show stopper with low miles. Yes, it's the fully loaded supercharged one just like the ones at the top of the page. It feels like you're in a show room right there on the carport. What a feeling.

My wife got back last night from her parents' home in Tampa. Her S-Type ran like a champ the entire trip. Her only concern was the heavy holiday traffic. Being able to use this car again with no problems for one of the primary reasons we purchased it is helping her confidence in the S-Type to come back in leaps and bounds. That's a very good thing....
