Monochromatic Side Mirror

The passenger side mirror on the STR has become a dark yellowish-red to the point where you can't use it to see traffic on that side of the vehicle. I called the dealer. They told me that the electronic dimming feature in the mirror is shot and I need a replacement...only $360!
I found a company in New York that will custom grind a convex passenger mirror and supply an outdoor silicone adhesive for about $40 so that the replacement mirror can be mounted right on top of the old one. Should be here in a few days. Anyone ever have trouble with the passenger mirror going dark before? What did you do to repair it
Thanks,
Cheers
Bob

Same problem on the passenger-side mirror of my wife's 2004 Lexus RX330. It turned a light golden color but still provides enough visibility to be able to use it with no problems. Back in January I checked with Lexus on the cost of a new mirror glass. Nearly $300, but they offered to sell me one for $200. I passed, and instead priced some regular replacement mirror glass from local glass shops. Prices were about the same as what you were quoted, $45 to $50 custom-cut for the car's mirror housing and then installed. That means removing the faulty mirror glass and installing the new glass in its place. Just haven't taken the time to get it done yet, primarily because my wife is not complaining about it....
Be careful if you opt to glue the new mirror glass on top of the old one. All the glass shops I spoke with warned me that doing so can interfere with mirror motor operation and hasten the demise of the motor by adding more weight than it is designed to handle. Don't know how true or false that may be, however....
Good luck, and let us know what you decide to do....

ebay has replacement mirrors pretty cheap. Though the "replacement" mirrors will not be monochromatic, just a convex mirror.
Keep your eye open in the Jaguar Classified section here.
Just checked www.car-part.com second page listing a couple OEMs for around $100.00, most of those yards will ship!

Driver's side was light gold/double -image on our 03 upon purchase. I cut an adhesive backed cover from a $5 sheet of mirror plastic from wallyworld until 3 conditions were met:
1. Car proved itself a keeper
2. Could stand to part with $200+ for the purpose. (Think mine was <$300, I'll check)
3. The lads at JagMac pointed and laughed and made fun of me when I picked the car up from headliner replacement.
You can find $56 replacement mirrors on eBay if you don't mind giving up the dimming feature. I think they'll work.

I ordered a replacement glass mirror on ebay today and it already shipped.
Still waiting for the idiots at internetglassnetwork.com to acknowledge my order from three weeks ago!
