Months of reading I'm stumped, shaky engine....
I’m having some issues (but I'll start with this one, the most annoying) that I find somewhat similar situations on the forum but not entirely, so I’m asking for some direction. This is a little long but that way I can really give a perspective of what I have done so far. I’m tired of paying for diagnostics that do nothing.
2001 3 cyl, Alberta Can, low humidity
As the temperature of the season drops the start-up becomes more and more like cranking a 1930’s John Deere over after it's been sitting for 6 months.
Even after the engine is running at proper temp, it will still have the following issues. Seems to have to "work through them" first. And she WILL NOT be forced.
Shakes very heavily, swaying the whole car. Will stall 1 -3 times (parked in attached fairly warm garage all night) 1 stall say at 0 Celsius, three stalls at -10 and cooler. Muffled pops, almost like a quiet backfire.
Start driving, engine rpm’s fluctuate from fast idle down to chug chug chug again, maybe a stall maybe not. After a while, things smooth out, then out of the blue, rough idle, and a stall, and if quite a cold day, no rough idle, just outright stall. Another round of shaking.
After that, it’s usually fine. Unless it’s -20 then it really never stops.
The following work was done in 2012 by a Jag oriented repair shop
Replaced Air Control gaskets
6 intake gaskets (I can see they are green)
Inner and outer valve cover gaskets
6 plugs
Fuel filter replaced
Elbow boot top rear near firewall
Looks like a new vacuum line running along the top the cylinders driver side.
I’m fairly certain the shaking did not happen before the repair but I can’t be sure. Thoughts? Direction where to start poking at? Thanks! -Gord

Check your engine mounts. If im not mistaken all S types come with a hydraulic kind. Used to have an 03 STR and after replacing a few coils and spark plugs i finally diagnosed the shaking problem i was having, bad engine mounts.
The very first one on this page is what im talking about.-

Did the elbow, wasn't as bad as I thought. Then found oil all over the coils so I changed the gaskets, broke a bolt off in the head, got that out. Not a single Cam/Valve cover bolt anywhere in Western Canada but Jag Calgary brought one overnight from Edmonton. Finished the job today and it runs much better. Engine light back on but at least I don't have the awful shaking and stalling. I did find an awesome excel sheet with step by step instructions and pictures for the elbow that I couldn't find on our forum so I'll PM somebody to sticky it. Made it pdf too. And add the bolt part number because it's not in the parts pdf list that we have. Whew! I was actually buttoning everything up after one evening when I found the oil leak, otherwise I'd have been done that evening!
