My feeling is that at the dumb consumer level it is just an "upsell" anyone that has sold retail knows you have to try to get every dollar possible out of people. The nitrogen probably has a high mark up, and we all know its about the all mighty $$$.
Now if I were really serious about racing and had a proper race car with a roll cage, and Ohilins, or such remote reservoir shocks and proper racing slicks, a fully seam welded unibody, then I might play around with it, but for my daily driven cars I will continue putting in air, from my compressor when ever I feel like it.
Kinda like how you can pay $600 to have the dealer "seal" your paint or buy the stuff and DIY for $20.
Was there a guy in a Prius nearby the sign smelling his own farts? (only those who watch south park will get this).

Come to think of it, it was Sean Connery that uttered the phrase. Do think he was actually trying to assist young singing coal miners, and I misheard?

Let's just fill tires with CO2 extracted from air (or smokestacks).
- It's a bigger, heavier molecule than Nitrogen, should not leak as quickly,
- It's really inert, will not oxidize and actually puts out fires,
- Could be collected and re-used at tire stations,
- It's Environmental enemy #1.
It's not very inert (else plants couldn't use it), but probably is inert enough. Only puts out some fires, but still not bad.

Note that the sign could not possibly exist in queerbec. There's not one word of french on it. It would have been torn down and set on fire within seconds of it appearing in public.
Given their government's latest campaign to rid restaurant menus of non-french words like 'pasta' 'gyros', 'empenada' etc, I'm having friend still living there file a complaint over the word 'poutine'. Seems that it's actually the English word 'pudding' which was misheard and mispelled many years ago. Never too late to correct an error when the survival of an ethnic group is being threatened. Once again, it's for the children.
BTW- if you look to the left side of the picture, it pretty obvious to any Canadian which nation-wide chain store I was at. Does your local CT have the same sign?
