Default My new s type R

Hi I am quite happy with my s type r but one thing which i am finding very annoying is the supercharger whining
Dose anyone else who has the R model have the same problem
anyone know if there is a way to reduce the whining noise
Apart from turning the stereo up
Thanking you
Darrol

Yes that one. Other than that it is normal unless the charger bearings are worn out or real low on charger oil

The superchargers does make a noise. Not as lovely a noise as my Triumph Stag V8 but a lovely noise nevertheless. Lovely enough that I removed the said noise suppression cover so that I can hear it a lot more and stop some of the heat soak.
Noise shouldn't be annoying though. Probably follow scottjh9 advice and have these things checked.
The lower windscreen plastic cover located in the engine bay does have an insulated backing that stops noise and heat quite effectively. This backing was never suitable in an engine bay environment and would be well and truly deteriorated by now. Side issue (possibly noise related also); the foam around the charcoal filter compartment would be deteriorated also by now allowing engine fumes into the cockpit.
Foam inside the air filter box would be deteriorated also.

@ Darrol: Which colour is your STR?
And did you do research, how many STRs were imported into NZ?

Hi Peter yes I did some research first
As been looking for some time
car is slate gray Metallic paint code LHL
From what i have been told by jaguar new Zealand
And land transport new Zealand there are 60 STRS in New Zealand
my one is nz new which there were only 25
the other 35 were used imports
When looking for information i also found out there were only 100 s type 4.2 n/a in New Zealand as well
Thanks

I always remove my engine covers and store them away because I feel that the cover just holds the heat in and heat is a power robber. Plus it helps your under hood houses and O-rings last longer because they’re not baking in that intense heat as much

Maybe that im just used to the Growl of my 4.2 n/a
whe you give it some gas other wise its nice and quiet
And you can take a peace full drive if want
with the STR you don't get that
So depending on what mood I choose between the two

Usually its the neighbours and the extended neighbourhood of the rest of the town not liking the supercharger wining...
There is a supercharger car here in this town. I never saw it, but I frequently hear it when it drives somewhere 500-1000m away from where I live.
No chance that you do not hear this car approaching - in stark contrast to electric cars - not even if you are hard of hearing...

I don't really hear the whine much until I floor it, so maybe yours is making more noise than it should?
