BertrandGrey, I came across this long shot when researching something else entirely:
Have you had the catalyzers checked for clogging and back-pressure? Some control designs alert the driver to this by illuminating the MIL light. I've also noticed on mine that anything that illuminates the MIL light also indicates "restricted performance" during some unrelated fuel economy experiments I'm carrying out.
I would think the catalyzers would be of the three way type (but check it out) and they operate in a very narrow fuel/air ratio condition. I do believe there are two O2 sensors involved, one before and one after the catalyzer. Indications might be dodgy petrol used previously, or a lot of cold-running.
As I say, LONG-SHOT, but you don't seem to have much else left!
Leedsman.

Leeds.... Clogged Catalytic Converters do trigger "restricted performance" but they do not trigger "limp mode". Remember All, restriced performance and limp mode are two very different things...

Restricted Performance: Something is wrong so the car is not allowed to opperate in its full range, but is drivable...It will allow gentle acceleration to regular highway speed.

Limp Mode: Major fault is detected by the PCM. The car goes into a default idle mode. Designed to allow the driver to still use power brakes and steering. Exists so the driver can attempt to get their vehicle off the roadway and shut it off.

Confirmed for Saturday. The car is still randomly going limp. I tried adding Cialis and Viagra to the gas tank - didn't work, but the shocks stiffened.

Don't put too much in, you then may need a step ladder to get in and out of your car..

If the shocks stay stiff for more than 4 hours you may have to seek medical attention... or have the time of your life

Take care,

George

If the weather does not cooperate and we have to work on the car in the garage, some additional lights would help. Not sure what else Jason might need.

George,

If it stays up longer than 4 hours, it`s time to call a hooker.
