Need to decode paint code, help please :)
Hi guys, I need to decode paint code on my 2002 S-type R. Car is black I've found the sticker with color code, however it is damaged and due to that i can only see the first two letters of the code: PE Third letter is unreadable. Photo below.
VIN is SAJAA03S721M52024 if that helps.
Thanks in advance

PED Jaguar Anthracite Pearl Metallic.
Used on the 2002 S-type, X-type, XJ, and XK8.
PEC started in 2003 model year cars. Your car is a 2002 model year car.
Also the third letter looks more like a D than a C as the top left corner right angle of the letter can still be seen.

That is a 2002 model year supercharged S-type.
(It would be 31M62936 or newer if it was an 03 model year car.)

2002 but that doesn't resolve the colour code question.
Unfortunately full vehicle specifications were removed from the open data listed in TOPIx Vehicle Summary last year. Before then, the colour would have been shown.
I'd call a dealer, ask if they can supply a Touch Up Paint Stick and give the VIN. They'd need to look up the paint code ......

There are indeed no 4.0 SC S-types they are all 4.2.
As far as I know PED was replaced on the S-type with PEF for the 2003 model year.
Both are metalic black PED looks slightly lighter than the later PEF when the two are next to each other.
Jaguar Color Codes - PED model/year code PED Cross-Reference
Jaguar Color Codes - PEF model/year code PEF Cross-Reference
My 05MY car is PEF. I had to get a new wing (fender) last year and got an as new second hand one in PEF. It was an exact match to the rest of the car.
This took some time to find as there were a lot more in the earlier PED colour.

I believe one of the issues confusing the first "facelift" changes is that the change-over in GB and other markets was a 2002.5 model; this was called a 2003 in North America. There is no mid-year digit in the VIN protocol, so people call a face-lifted 2002.5 car a 2002...
I better line of demarcation would be before or after VIN M45255.

The 2 model year in the vin number starts with M45255 and as you say that is when the facelift cars started as well.
