Bad idea! It's already been done and the car was a mess! Nothing works because nothing is compatible.
I would recommend to junk the car and get something else. I am a Jaguar fan but the car you have is not worth saving.
If you still want a Jag consider getting something 2003 or newer much better car and they are cheap!

1st maybe i should have said, when you buy a modern engine&transmission as a package it comes with its own EMS & TCM computors(thats how we do it in USA),along with engine bay wiring harnesses!
and if you guys dont have any imagination or creative abilities, then maybe you shouldnt try it after all!
and most Jaguars are not valuable anyway, especially after 5yrs or more.

Thanks so much for the comments. I will keep watching and reading until I hear something that I believe is workable. I know the value of the car and the fact, that getting rid of it is an option, just not one I'd like to exercise.
It is a 2001, S type 4.0 engine, with 146K miles. I am suppose to go back and add this car data to another thread, allowing the potential for more feedback/direction.

Your best bet is to go with the OES engine/tranny - your potential cost - around $5,000 give or take - still way cheaper than trying to get a different drive train combo to work in your Jaguar - unless you have endless $$$ available, love to get frustrated easily and you don't mind pushing the vehicle to get it in motion... Just my $0.02

Guy, My 00 S Type is a blast, it hugs the road so well and the power is good, however, funny you mention the STR - as I am in the market for one.
