Default Need a great Jag mechanic in the Virginia.

Hi guys, I have taken my STR to independents, and finally to a Jag dealership - but no one can successfully diagnose why it shuts down while driving. My independent shop drove the car for over a week, but could not replicate the issue. The dealer said their diagnostic tools showed nothing, and proposed keeping the car for driving around for a week - for $1,000 - which I declined. I need an ace Jaguar mechanic who may know what the issue is, and isn't just planning to empty my wallet. BTW, please don't recommend TopLine Jaguar, or Jaguar Chantilly
Thanks mucho.

With IDS/SDD you could see if it gets a P1582 (it's a data recorder) each time and what the frames in there show.

Other people with this included:
1. some sort of issue with the ignition wiring/lock (so the car just thought it had been turned off)
2. knocking the key with their knee!

Sdd/ids runs on a dedicated laptop if possible or at least a vm installed on a laptop. Xp pro service pack3 is the goto. Windows7 32 bit works fine also for sdd/ids. Stand alone ids needs xp i think. I could be mistaken on that one

Yeah, I get the sales pitch, but I've already been to your website - and I'm not interested in more Jag widgetry. I'm looking for a Master Jaguar mechanic who can diagnose my car's issue, correctly isolate the fault, and recommend a solution that will work. But I do like your remote convertible top gizmo since I have 3 convertible Jags. But your remote thingie is just a tad overpriced IMHO. Besides, birds use my convertibles for target practice...can't imagine how awful the cleaning job would be if I were remotely letting my top down. And even if I bought one I'd prefer the motor to be running before I engaged it - to prevent unnecessary battery drain. But make me deal on 3 and who knows - maybe I'll bite.

Hey scottjh9, thanks for the details. Windows 7? Wow...I loved it then - but what a blast from the past. I'll never be able to put this platform together. Doesn't anybody sell a self-contained, stand-alone, SDD/IDS scanner kit?

there are some available on ebay. Laptop, interface and programming software. All you need to get it done. No handheld scanner to run sdd unfortunately

Not a sales pitch...I am trying to recommend a top notch shop for you. These guys at English Auto in Odenton MD are the best in the DC metro area. The owners are former Jag dealer master mechanics and they are very competent and reputable. I am totally unaffiliated with them except as a satisfied former customer and known other satisfied customers.

PS...I do not sell a single product for the S-Type. Why would I post here if not just trying to help? I am not on the forum all that much these days, I did not even know you owned convertibles.
