Default Need help fixing Jaguar Mirror

Hey guys, I am new to the forum today. I am trying to fix my mother’s Jaguar mirror. It’s a 2000 S Type. Somebody hit it with their car door. I have included pics below. I am wondering a few things…..
1. Do I need to buy an entire mirror or can I just replace that hinge piece that broke?
2. Anybody have a mirror or hinge for sale?
3. If I need a new mirror, how do I get to the bolts and plug from the inside of the car?
4. The glass and colored part of the mirror pop off right?
5. How can I tell which mirror I need? I noticed there are a few options, heated, powered, memory, etc. Im not sure what this car has. How can I tell?
6. Is the X type mirror complatible?
Thanks in advance for any help. Looking to fix ASAP.

Hey sorry to hear about your cat but if you can find a salvage yard that have new model cars and see if the have your Yr make and model and if it's in good shape you can use the back plate from yours on it that way you don't have to try to find one your color

If it's a 1999-2002 car you need another of that range as the mirrors are squarer than the later cars. You could download and consult JEPC.......

He indicates that it is a 2000 but also states 00-03 so who knows.
Ask him what year his scrapper is.

Tony,

I have a 2001 parts car w/ that mirror. misne is chrome back but you don't need the back anyway. as said above, you can use the red back off of yours. $100.00 shipped to NH.

hey guys, thanks 4 all the tips again.

dale- i wouldve bought it, but was unaware anybody posted on the thread because i thought id get an email like i do on my jet ski forum. i already got a mirror off ebay. i lucked out and got one for 75! it was definately an outlier in terms of price. it got here today.

i pulled the painted part off, but broke the tabs (doesnt matter because i need to use the other one), but how do i get that off without breaking it? do you squeeze it in to bend the tabs in?

also, the mirror came with the piece that bolts to the car by 3 bolts. do i need to use that whole thing, or can i just replace the mirror from the hinge out? if so, how do i get that apart? thanks

hey guys, so i got the old mirror off, and the colored part transferred onto the new mirror.

however, upon putting the new mirror on the door, i could not get the outside seal over the mirror. i tried heating it, pulling it, bending the mirror piece under it, etc, and nothing would work.
heres a pic to help show what im talking about. any suggestions are appreciated so i can put the door panel back on and be done with this.

Tony, It looks like you need to slide the edge under the trim upon installing it. the window trim is pretty stiff. Hope this helps. Dale

dale, that was my first thought. i tried it, but if you angled it in, the bolts wouldnt line up.

the main problem was that i needed more hands. i had a buddy over, we heated it with a hair dryer, and bent it up with credit cards, and held it up while installing the mirror. and it worked... the only mishap i had was i dropped one of the nuts inside the door. im just going to buy another at home depot.

thanks for all the help guys, merry christmas
