Default Need help misfire codes after egr repair

Hi guys,

First I am new to Jaguar but I am not new in any way to holding a wrench and tackling odd repairs. Now the story
I got the 2004 STR a month ago with a P0304 (EGR) code NO other codes were showing and I drove it over 300 miles, I tried to clean the egr it but the code was based on the solenoid malfunction so I replaced the EGR, in the process I damaged the brake booster plastic lock so I replaced it together with the rubber o-ring. Long story short I checked the car for vacuum leaks (using a smoke machine) and I confirmed there are not vacuum leaks, egr works fine. However.. and here I would really appreciate your help; I started the car and heard a thump then a minute later I got the CEL with the codes:
(P)
0300
0301
0303
0305
0307
1313
1316
0201

As you can see all are misfire codes on bank one the 0201 is cyl 1 injector, I checked the black wire on the coil path and it is not interrupted or shorted, the car runs bad with all misfires BUT when cruising at 65-70mph the engine runs fine and smooth, if I hit the acceleration the CEL starts blinking and a unburned fuel smoke shows behind. Also idling is erratic, limp mode is on...
I am 99.999% positive it is NOT the timing, and at the same time I am thinking it could be the crankshaft sensor but due to missing any crankshaft code I am not sure.
If anyone has any insight in what this can be causing the codes please let me know!

Thank you in advance for all the help!!

Bob

Flashing MIL = catalyst damaging misfires. Don't keep driving!!

Very unlikely to be CKP, CMP or timing. Look elsewhere. Often it's related to work just done.

Could easily be damaged wiring - try studying the electrical guide (in JTIS, free download).

The P030x are all on the same bank so likely a clue.

BTW, P0304 is not an EGR code but I think maybe is a typo?

You were right on the money! The culprit was a power (red) wire for injector 1, the wire somehow got near the exhaust and the insulation got melted further causing a short. The wire is on the back harness just left of the EGR... You would expect better engineering from the brits, I guess they are the living proof that being smart is not like flu; one cannot just hang around the smart ones (BMW/MB) to become smart. I am a bit disappointed on how this car is built, but I'll get over it...in time. Meanwhile, I am in the process of installing sleeves on all wires in the engine compartment in addition to installing better heat shield around exhaust area ...let alone trimming the stupidly long screws Jaguar left exposed in the engine compartment without a darn' reason, except of making repairs a pain in the butt.

JagV8 Thank you again for the great advice!

P.S. the 304 code was meant to be 405 ... sorry for the typo but I was very tired fighting the unknown. Heading towards replacing front side motor mounts and fuel filter now ... I guess I got a pretty neglected car it is fun to get it to date with the maintenance though. (Rhetoric question...) can't stop thinking why do some buy these cars if they have no money clue, skills and/or desire to invest in them?
