Need help with motor I.D.
Hey guys, it's been a long time since I posted but I'm finally starting to work on the jaguar. It is a 2000 S-Type with the 4.0 engine. The motorthrew a rodand the shop we took it to basically ripped us off. I have most of the pieces except the block. I have been looking for months for a motor but can not find one anywhere! I find alot of the XJ8/XK8 4.0 v8s and am wondering if those will work?
OR, even the 4.2 is alot easier to find so I was wondering what else would have to be changed (i.e. pcm, wiring etc...) to put that in the jag.
Thanks for your time!

RE: Need help with motor I.D.
the only significant differance is displacment(Jaguar supplied many 4.2 as replacement engines in earlier models before they where released in production)and location of the VVTS either in the cam covers or in the front timing cover in early v8s, the xk/xj are the same as the S type, if you get a used engine pull the cam covers and verify you have the metal bodied upper chain tensioners, if not change them now.

Are you saying that the newer year 4.2 engine will work in place of the 4.0 in the 2000 S-Type ?

Ok, so I noticed the mechanic didn't give back the ecu either. I went to order one and found they have one listed for 2000-2002 and one for 2003-2005. Which one should I order?
Also, just to satisfy the thoughts going through my head, what about going to the supercharged 4.2L? I have seen a few pics of them in the cars and see a reservoir in front of the engine, I assume that's for the intercooler. What kind of adaptations would be needed for that kind of changeover?
One last thing, sometimes people list the engines as california and non-california emissions. I need Ca emissions if there is a difference, however, I don't see a smog pump on any of the engines and very few other "emission" parts. And some people list the engine as both Ca and non-Ca, so does it make a difference?
Thanks again guys!
