If it's the early (1999-2002) car then I've seen a few threads.... may have been on Jaguar Forum.co.uk • Index page and may take a bit of finding so think of every word you can for the Search features on this & that site.

You probably have to use Search and be persistent.

i'm not quite sure how it works but when it's in the car does it push in far enough to turn the wheels enough to release it to spring out ? maybe the cogs have slipped ?

I cant check on mine cos i nav there instead

The cassette cubby has a little lever in the bottom rear that flips back and forth and latches/releases. If the part is missing it is down in the lower component section or behind the radio and A/C control.

You can buy a used one (any color) and put your colored faceplate on the operating unit. Or you can disassemble the working one to get the lever for replacement.

I even got a wrong one (RHD) and swapped the faceplate so I did not have to re-order the correct part.

I don't know if the 'telephone presenter' unit uses the same 'latch/release' lever so you will have to determine that if you get a used one from a salvaged car.

The latch mechanism is not on the bottom but just inside the rear slot on the bottom.

another update and question--- the part came but it came in the frame..... it looks like the screws that hold the frame in come from under it (and possible above too) where i cant get them unless i take the whole dash apart... can i removed the cassette holder only and put it in mine.... well i know i can, but will it work? any tricks to wind it up or just put it in? thanks

upon receiving the new item, i realize that the frame in the car is missed that back tab that holds the compartment. all of the screws come into the frame, so theres no way for me to get to them. the level that holds the compartment is the same way. i was almost thinking i could rivet the lever on..... any suggestions?

It's fairly easy to pull out the console and then you can change the whole thing.
You might find something in the audio section if you can't find it here.

You need to remove the entire radio, A/C, cubby assy and disassemble the individual units.
