Default In need of straight answer....

2005 Jag S-type V6 3.0

I am replacing my coolant expansion tank. I did not drain the entire coolant system, I syphoned only the coolant in the expansion tank and disposed of it.

Question: The existing coolant in my jag looks to be red or orange in color. This existing coolant was put in by the dealership.

I need to purchase some coolant/anti freeze from my local auto parts store to refill the newly installed expansion tank which will mix with the coolant that was not drained from the system

Which coolant should I buy that will mix with my existing coolant that remained in the system, dex-cool or G-05?
I already know not to mix anything with GREEN..... but G-05 is gold/yellow?

What should I buy to top off expansion tank and will mix with the coolant that was left in the system?

If you are referring to "dealership" as in a JLR (Jaguar~Land Rover) dealership then I would confidently use the Dex-cool.

As long as your selected coolant meets the required M97B44D specs, you're good to go. Dexcool does. I've been using it for years in two previous Lexus SUVs and both of our current Jaguars. No issues whatsoever....

The straight answer is that colour is virtually meaningless and cannot be relied upon in order to make the correct choice. Going by type or brand name is not 100% reliable either.

The sole criteria is that the coolant must meet the Jaguar spec as listed in your owner's manual.

Or the decal under the bonnet, right by the expansion bottle.
