Network Problem: No audio and no phone

Hi,
My wife has a 2006 S-Type 3.0 and the phone and radio no longer work.
The phone just says "Not Fitted" and the radio appears to be playing, but no sound emerges, no matter how much fiddling with the mute and volume.
After research around, I came across some notes about testing the audio loop network, I pressed the AM/FM + Eject buttons, but only saw the "Main" module reporting. Occasionally, after lots of repeated pressing of Mix + Eject, I'd the Navi module show up.
What's weird, is that after doing one of these network module test, the radio actually came back on. But then after turning the key off and then back on, it was mute again. That happened twice.
So I guess this means one of three things:
1. Bad phone module
2. Loose fiberoptic cable
3. Faulty/bad fuse
Does this sound right?
If so, where do these modules live in the car, so I can start re-seating the fiberoptic plugs?
Or would it make sense to check the fuses first? If so, which of the three fuse junction box locations?
I neither of the above work, how much is a new phone module?
Thanks,
Bob

Well, I found the location of the phone and voice activation modules, behind the DVD Nav module.
It looks like they're bolted to the back side of a silver metal plate behind the Nav DVD player.
Also noticed, that the Power Amp and the CD Autochanger are missing.
Are those optional? I bought the car used and those items were never in there, although there are dangling video/audio and power wires.
But the fiberoptic cables are all plugged in.
I'm going to unscrew that metal plate so I can get to the voice and phone modules so I can reseat the fiberoptic plugs.
Is there anything else I should try?
Thanks,
Bob

Well, after fiddling with the fiberoptic cables, I was able to determine that audio would start working if I left the phone module's fiberoptic cable unplugged.
At that point, I assumed I would have to start looking for a replacement phone module.
But then, I unplugged the power to the phone module, and after a while plugged it back in.
Then everything started working again - both the phone and the audio sound.
So, did I get lucky by just "rebooting" the phone module by removing power to it?
Anyway, it's all working now - I hope it stays working!

Most of the modules live in an "Entertainment stack" in the trunk. There is also the audio amplifier, which is in the trunk as well a bit further to the front. All these gadgets are on the driver side (in US).
I would not assume bad phone module; any bad component can disrupt the optical bus and if this happens you get no audio.
