Default New 2009-2010 DVD Navigation Disc

I just ordered the new Navigation disc and wanted to post the part number if anybody needs it. The new disc is 1X43-10E898-BJ. Price is still a rip off at $199 PLUS $10 shipping PLUS sales tax!!! $10 to ship one overpriced DVD. These things should be no more than $50 including shipping!!!

Despite the fact that there are copyright issues with making dvd copies for sale to others, it's completely legal to make a copy of your own disk for your own use.
I'd sure like to know how to do that. I want a working copy of mine for the car so I can keep the overpriced original safely stored at home. But I have not found any means of making a copy that the car will read. Though the copies I've made via several different means all show as exact bit for bit dupes in my computer drive, the car always refuses the copies with the msg the inserted disc "is not a map dvd."
Anyone know how? It has baffled both me and my IT pro friends.

I always thought that these navigation DVDs are a complete rip-off. When you pay at least $3000 for the system itself I say the updates should be free.
In my country these DVDs cost around half of a medium salary. And not only for jags as you could say that it's a luxury brand.

Cool

You are entitled to make a backup copy of legally obtained software. Specifically here is how ya back up a Navteq disk:

First go get this free software:

http://www.imgburn.com/

Second go get a Verbatim Dual Layer DVD+R

Thirdly confirm you have a DVD burner that will burn a Dual Layer Disk

Load the Navteq DVD in your burner and then load the imgburn software. Choose Burn an Image to File so you can burn an ISO image file to your hard disk.

After creating the ISO file on your hard disk load the Verbatim DL blank disk. Load imgburn and choose Burn an Image to Disk choosing the ISO file ya created.

Make sure that Book Type is set to DVD-ROM and set the burn speed to the slowest setting.

Good Luck...

Nice tip searanch, many thanks, that software did the business on my 2010 Europe disc, didn't bother with the verbatim disc, but did use DVD+R.

I'd like to add something i learned the hard way.

Hard drives are pretty reliable these days, but they still fail. So you should store your iso file off site using this free service http://publicbt.com

I just don't want you to loose information like I did.

Be aware the ones are EBay are old. The one I purchased was just released in January 2010. The last two letters of the part number on the DVD tells you what version you have. Also the disc is marked with the year it was released. The newest disc part number is in my first post.

I have made a copy but like the last time I worked on this, It sort of worked? I can get the Nav system to load and read the disc without problems. The map version even says 2009-2010. The map shows the car moving and the roads are correctly labeled. The new disc has TONS of more roads and POI's (Points of interest) on it. But it is not able to calculate routes? Takes awhile calculating then gives an error "Cannot calculate route". Put the stock disc in and then it can?? I worked a bunch on the 2008-2009 disc and it sort of worked too but never 100%??
I am not sure where my problem is?

Boy that's the truth. Last year we had one for the rental car we had in the UK on a business trip. The unit we had kept trying put us down a cartpath. We just turned it off and used the cheapo map we got from the hotel. When it came time to return the car we tried the "go home" option. No luck. According to the GPS unit the nearest Hertz office was two hours away. We went back to the hotel and got the right address from the Hertz website. Female proper English voice was a hoot though.

kfishlock-

I believe that is the part # for the latest version. However, why would it be available on eBay for $125 when it has only been available from the manufacturer for 3 months at about twice that price when shipping is included? I'd suspect that your copy is just that....a copy.

I also would note that on eBay there a lost of really overpriced replacement discs. Apparently the sellers don't know how to break the code on the part number. Gracious...a BB version is available for only $69.95. BB.....that would make it at least 5 years old and woefully out of date. Personally, I don't think a BB version is worth a dollar let alone $70.

No you got the current disc. I am puzzled like Toller? Why would anybody sell a brand new disc for less than half price?? Can you tell if it's a copy?? More important is does it work properly?

My copy is only working part time. I did use a Verbatim DL DVD. This seems to be the recommended brand. I don't get any disc errors but it can only calculate a route about 50% of the time.

These Navigation discs are strange!!
