NO. The factory disc works perfect. The copy of either the downloaded torrent or the new disc does not work properly.

Glad you clarified that.
I have read on one of the myriad of threads of someone sucessfully copying & using it in their car so that they have the original in case of a failure or loss.

I also read about it being two DVDs but you've dispelled that idea here.

Now I just need to wait for a sale price. What I have is ancient.

Thanks for the replies.

Bob:
Keep an eye on EBay. I could not find a new one but another guy did and picked it up for $125.

Well this does seem a bit more complicatd than it looks. Ther'es an East Coast (USA & Canada) version which when I think about it I would want Canada as well. So maybe I will need two discs or even 4?

The descriptions on ebay are all over the place and often very misleading.

The part number for the Navitech one is $200 and that's just not going to happen for me. There's also a Denso part number as well Jag part numbers.

Oh Joy!

Size of data differs depending on region. Western Europe is on Dual Layer DVD, but Eastern is on a regular. What you need to remember when making safe copies is that DVD Booktype HAS TO be set to DVD-ROM. Otherwise, your disc won't be read at all or with problems making it unusable.

I had a copy burned of the 2008 edition in 2008 and have never had an ounce of trouble. Not sure what these guys did wrong. Looking for a 2010 version now. I can get copies burned if anyone wants to buy a new one and split it up amongst some of us. My freind who burned it owns a movie theatre and I'm guessing he just has better equipment.

It's unwise to speak of illegal copying of copyrighted material on an open forum. This is exactly what's caused folks to owe Sony and others thousands of dollars.

Further, it could cause problems for our "hosts." There's no reason to assume that the President of Navteq doesn't drive a Jaguar and frequent the forum.

It would be GREAT if the president of Navteq read that. Then he might realise just how stupid their pricing model is. They're stuck in a rut that's 10 years behind the internet way of doing things.

Well, you called it...The navigation disc police are here...oh, the cuffs are out...wish me luck guys. I'm kidding with you, of course, and I do see your point. Wouldn't want any problems for the forum guys. I guess I'm just a rebel. I guess that's why I've had 16 Jaguars and over 100 cars. I don't always follow the rules. And yet, somehow, I have eluded incarceration.....As a matter of fact, I'm going to go out in a little bit and break the speed limit, probably won't buckle up and I'm definitely NOT going to come to a complete stop at a couple of stop signs. I'll see you guys in 5 to 10.

I agree. They might even make more money too. The Jag pricing is way out of line with the other marques but I suspect that's Jag's doing and not the fault of Navteq.

I don't think it's a great idea to publically taunt Navteq and if you're going to make copies etc guys do it offline.

I've seen other navteq discs that were $100 and $150.
IMHO it's over priced by at least $125. But if it was even $100 I might pop for it. At $200 fuggetaboutit.

But here's something that will make you feel all warm and fuzzy.
I went on the Navteq website and the first thing it brings up is a gps map centered on my home.

Just a not so friendly reminder that everyone knows just about anything about you these days. So ... if you traffic in illegal copies they certainly can find you even without your ISP's cooperation.
