Default New Car

Ok I know most of the things I need to address when buying an Stype. I recently purchased from an estate sale a 2000 Styp 4.0. This car has 44k on it for miles. I am replacing water pump and thermostat and housing. Have put new battery in it as the original was still there. As far as timing chain and tensioners, do I need to replace the chains as well as upper, lower tensioners and lower slides? I think the chains to be fairly new at this point. Help please as I am not sure which kits to purchase. I am guessing that tensioners and slides only need be replaced not chains. Your input would be most helpful. Thanks.

Most people just do the upper tensioners, if you want to spend the time / cash it has to be better to change them all.

Just a follow up of this time consuming job of updating tensioners. I and a mechanic friend of mine (we will call him Bob) his real name, did this job with the help of a couple of very good friends on a weekend. After reading and looking at the pictures and posts from this forum and the detailed instructions given by some very talented people here, this job is completed. It was an adventure I hope I do not have to visit again. Got all special tools from Christophers Cars via Ebay. Got parts from Rock Auto, Christophers, and Car Quest. I kept fender covers on everything all the way around the front and sides during the job and all is well. Uppers were starting to crack, lowers and slides were still intact. ALL are replaced. Car was switched to Mobil 1 EP and simply PURRS. No leaks no noise just perfect. Gen 3 parts were used so I am hoping will be good for the duration. My thanks again to those of you that gave of your time and info on the forum and made this job a success.
