New generation ipods

I am thinking about installing the jag ipod kit. But I have been told that apple no longer use the firewire charging pin on their connector. The firewire used to charge at 5v and was used in docking stations and car kits. The charging is now done via the 12v usb pin.
Latest gen ipods and phones may not charge in docking stations that are a few years old. (My new ipod nano does not charge at home in my old docking station)
Does anyone have the latest ipod nano in their car? does it charge ok?
Many thanks
David

I just bought a 1996 XJ6 and the guy threw in a whole sound system with tweeters, sub, amp, CD player, and it included a system that went into the glove compartment and only a wire comes through which connects to the ipod and it works with the CD player fine. The only reason i found my story relevant is that his system is at least 5 years old and the swindlers at the Dr. Dashboard where i got everything installed try to convince me that i needed a whole new system because ofthat exact same reason, he told me that the newer apple upgraded devices wouldn't work at all. I had no problem running a very old ipod first generation into this system, and everything works perfectly. of course mine was not a nano, but a regular sized ipod, but shouldn't be any different.
