Default new issue

Well I went ahead and replaced the transmission on my 2003 s type 4.2 . The changed the internal seals etc, TC and replaced my valve body and tcm with a used product. Got 2 yr unlimited mileage warranty.

Car was on empty when I picked it up Wednesday night, gassed up with super. Transmission to me was not shifting correctly 1-2 and 2-3 gears (a little harsh). But I thought that might be from "newness". Next morning idle was off, noise coming from right front tire (could hear best at low speed) and burnt smell. Stopped at shop they heard noise, thought it was a heat shield not tightened. Planned on bringing it in to be fixed Saturday, however, Thursday night not running well, rpms jumping around between 1-2000, shifting oddly, felt like something was opening and closing underneath my seat. At shop today, all misfire codes, p0300,1316,1582 and another one (cant remember). I cant believe I have a new problem, Any thoughts? Something not connected right when they re placed transmission, O2 sensor, Vacuum , air leak, tcm reflash, bad gas????

Any help appreciated.

Sounds like coils going out. Pull em and look for oil.

The trans. and TC was recently rebuilt on my 03 STR. Thereafter, the car shuddered when climbing a hill in high gear with low rpm. It felt as if there was inadequate fuel delivery or a coil misfire. The indy Jag mechanic observed then cleared several trans. codes, then reflashed the TCM. This plus fuel injection cleaner in the gas tank cleared up the shudder. I'd suggest doing the same. The coil misfires may have their origins in adverse ECU-TCM communication.

+1 on what bfsgross said above. I also just had my gearbox rebuilt (non-dealer) and one of the biggest and most important steps that was missed was the clearing and reflashing of the TCM. I left the shop and had a terrible lurch and shudder ended up having to go back the next day it was so bad.

They cleared and reflashed and BAM!!! Problem solved. You may very well have a similar issue, would have whoever did your rebuild try this step first...

My 2 cents worth...

I think what's happening is this: the TCM adaptions needed relearning. An actual reflash may or may not have been needed (not needed if same software version) but when done the adaptions are also cleared.

With IDS/SDD you can clear them and then drive the car and watch the TCM relearn how the trans clutches behave i.e. get new adaptions.

Anyway... it's good to hear cars are fixed!
