Catfan01,
I personally do not know, but I did post the pictures here and also sent them to my friend-mechanic who is helping me get my cat back in shape. He replied immediately suspecting the water pump. He said that we should change that along with the new thermostat to start. I would appreciate some advice/suggested links to troubleshoot the water pump— just to make sure.
Additional Questions:
• Are there any other symptoms that I should be looking out for?
• Is there anything else that I should troubleshoot (and replace) if in fact it turns out to be the water pump?
• How difficult is this job?
Not trying to get a head of myself, but, would like to price water pumps and if anyone has a part number and brand/manufacturer they recommend please let me know.
Thank you,
~ Dawn

One of the forum sponsors is SNG Barratt.
I've used them for several purchases on my 03 Jag, I'm not saying they are the least expensive option but their customer service is as good as I've dealt with.
Lot's of VIN breaks in the link I'm going to post next. You can always search for the part numbers from any source.

That seems to be in the general area of the water pump, but it could be a hose or connection for all I can tell. A cooling system pressure tester will be worth its weight in gold to be sure. Just pump it up and look all over with a bright light and a small inspection mirror.
Running at idle for a leak check typically doesn't help much, as pressure barely builds up like that. You really need the pressure tester. Some auto part stores loan them for free.
Another check is to look for play in the water pump shaft. Use a breaker bar and release the tension on the serpentine belt. You don't have to remove the belt, just unload it. While holding the tension off, try wiggling the pulley. If it wiggles, the shaft bearings have failed and it's time for a replacement.
I changed the water pump on my '02 V6 about a year and a half ago. I don't remember any major problems, other than dealing with those big spring clamps. If you can't get to them easily at the pump, undo them at the other end of the hose and remove them together.
If you do need a new pump, make sure you get the correct style. This thread shows the two types. Most stores kept trying to sell me the wrong one. It's easy to tell the difference when you know where to look:

@Catfan01
Okay, it’s late and I probably should have waited to look into this. But, I am a glutton and I have to admit that my eyes spun 🌀🌀 a little where I opened the SNG Barrett link with all the VIN breaks... but based on what I read...
@kr98664,
if I order the same part you used, it will also jump out of the box, run and attach itself to my car? please say yes!
In all seriousness, I am a little confused as to how to find the right pump. I saw that @Teck4Jag has one for sale in the classifieds.

(feeling a little dense in the head tonight) so thank you for your patience.

If possible, take the old one with you to match it up. The difference is easy to spot if you know where to look. The arm sticks up above the water pump, and attaches to the front of the cylinder head on the US passenger side. Here are two pics from a training manual, with a red arrow pointing to the bolt at the end of the arm. Look these over and verify what you actually have, the wide or narrow arm:

Remember, just be careful because many stores have inaccurate listings. I looked at NAPA, for example. They showed three pumps that would supposedly fit, but only two of the three were correct for an early model:
WP58556 reman, pic shows correct wide arm
TFW43090 new, pic shows correct wide arm
TWP43013 new, pic shows incorrect narrow arm (for later models?)
The part I installed on my '02 was a Gates 43090, which I believe corresponds to the TFW43090 (same suffix) at NAPA, the middle choice above.

I have not been able to come on here, so I cannot recall whether I updated the resolution to my “No start problem.” I just want to say yes it was resolved and THANK YOU to every single person who helped me along my way! Back in January, when I thought I had the “really bad flu,” I ended up having some residual health difficulties. So the after effects that I have been battling coincide with what many others who had “the bad flu” are feeling— my doctor’s are now convinced that I could have had COVID. So I am so lucky to still be here. Needless to say I am embarking on a new adventure and changing my coils in the Cat wish me luck mates!
Again, THANK YOU so very much to all who come to this forum and so selflessly share your knowledge!
