New member here purchasing s type r. if anyone has advice please advise me.
First off i want to say hi. i just joined the forum. Ive been through a 95 toyota supra turbo, 03 bmw m3, and an 07 350z as far as the cars ive owned recently. if you would like to see pictures i dont mind posting. i want something new and i have decided to make the move and go for the jaguar s type r, ashift i was scared to do at first but realized im done with sports cars at this timeof my life and need to settle down with a nice all around car.
myquestions is, is it worth it to buy an 03 s type rwithout warranty. the reason is there easier tofind and i would be able to purchase one sooner. the dilemma is they dont have warranty. i know with my m3 i had to extend the warranty while it was still active so its clear that the oppurtunity to do that on an 03 is over.obviously an 05 jag will have warranty and i can extend it but is it worth it to pay 5-10k more on the price and wait longer or just spend the 20ishk and someone extend the warrantythrough a third party company.
thankseveryone for the heads up andi cant wait to settle downwith the type r

it seems everyone says that. its just that bad of a risk w/o warranty. does it have to be a jaguar warranty because i might be able to cover an 03 with a reputable 3rd party company. what do you recommend?
i noticed you have an 03. whats your status?

There are several good independent warranty companys out there. I think if you look around the post you can find some info. I have the Jaguar Select Edition on my car for another year but it came with 2 years left whan I bought it.

well mine is tech an '03 (very late production and therefore very late sale date) but my original warranty just expired about a month ago, however i made sure mine also has the select edition extended warranty...i would not buy one without an existing or CPO warranty.... id be weary of a "3rd party warranty"....when i was doing reasearch before i bought mine as long as the car has 30 days or longer on the existing warranty it can be extended...hope this helps!

I would think long and hard about a S Type R (STR). When buying any jag, it only makes financial sense to drive the thing into the ground. They depreciate so much as is. 08 is the last year of the s type and Jaguar is for sale by ford, so far the highest bidders are from india, all of which will most likely further depreciation. The STR doesn't do all that well of a job with converting 400hp into a low et at the quarter mile. Mid 13s is the best you can hope for. They get 14MPG or less if you live in a climate where you need the AC all the time. It is a great rare car, I just wish it was either quicker or got better MPG. That's my personal opinion and a low et OR "good" MPG are what's important to me.
In regards for a third party warranty, I did a detailed write up in a different post. The majority of warranty companies won't even sell products for forced induction vehicles. Yet there are still tons of companies you will find who will, usually at a higher price. What you first need to do is contact the shop where you want to get service done and see what warranties they accept and recommend. Read all the fine print. Almost all third party companies put cap on parts and labor, like in the other post, I've seen several that only pay up to $1500 for an engine or tranny and only $50/hr labor. Meaning if you go to a Jag dealer and they charge $110/hr, you're paying that $60/hr difference out of pocket.

Buy a Jaguar certified used car and purchase the extra warranty. The piece of mind knowing that jaguar is behind you is worth the extra coin. I just picked up a 2003 str, my warranty is good for another 80k or 2011. The Jaguar warranty is the best on the market from what I've seen.
