Default New Member & Need some help

Hello jaguar forum members, my name is Joel. I'm new here. I don't know too much about my car and all its parts so sorry if my explanations won't make sense. I have 2003 S-type with a 3.0 L engine. I currently live in Raleigh, NC. Here's a pic of my car:

That's how it was when I first bought it.

I'm having issues with my engine. I'll try my best to explain it, & I'll show some pics of the problem. I was about to go on a 3 hour drive to Charlotte today and I see smoke coming out of my engine and realize the "High Engine Temperature" light is on. I eventually find a close enough place to stop and park my car. I open up the hood and realize that the hose that connects from my engine coolant to the rest of the engine is broken off. The hose isn't what's broken, it's the piece at the end of the hose from the engine coolant to the rest of the engine that's broken and it's causing my engine's temperature to go up and is not driveable as of now. It's still where I left it. Here are pictures of it:

What's best to do? Buy a whole new hose, or connector piece at the end, or is there something else I need to do?

Joel

Hey Joel, I'm going to move you to the s-type section for this question. But promise you'll come back and give us a proper intro back here (in the new member section) after you get some advice, ok?

Sorry, I don't know the x-type engine bay that well. Good luck.

Joel, a couple of things:
1) Upper radiator hose unit needs to be replaced.
2) easy roadside repair with the right tools and parts
3) Scott Jaguar is located at exit 5 off of I-77 (south of Charlotte)
4) I can possibly help you out if you don't have any mechanically inclined friends or family to help.

Joel, if you would like my phone number email me yours at @yahoo.com since you cannot receive private messages here yet.

Such a generous fella you are! I believe Joyce would be proud. By chance can you come to Boston and help me out with some gremlins in my ride? All the Sam Adams you can consume!

Welcome Joel! Scott Jaguar in Charlotte has excellent service. I've dealt with them on several occasions. My service advisor is Russ. Since you're in Raleigh, Bob Dunn Jag in Greensboro would be closer. I've never been there so I don't have any knowledge of their service department. A friend of mine bought his 2010 XKR there and had great things to say about them.

There are a lot of knowledgeable members on this forum who can offer great advice. With the price of labor in the Jaguar service shops in NC, you'll save yourself a ton of money by listening and learning from these great members.

Good luck!

Ok guys, this 19 year old young man and I just spoke. Anyone recommend a shop in the Cary area for him to get this car towed to and repaired? Joel is a college student and doesn't have the $450.00 to purchase parts, tow and repair. Unfortunitely the vehicle is 3 hours away from me.

If he thinks that he'll be able to do it himself, I'd advise finding a cheap tow service to get his car somewhere it will be safe and easy to work on, remove the broken piece, and go to Bob Dunn Jag in Greensboro or Jaguar of Winston Salem to get a replacement part.

The first and most important thing to do is get the car somewhere secure and safe. If not, he may come back to find his leaper stolen from the hood or that other unpleasant things have happened to his car.

Triple A membership has a pretty good deal with towing included. The cost might be similar to hiring a tower alone, but at least you'll get to keep the benefits of the membership for a year. I joined one time when I locked my keys in my car while it was still running (yeah it's kind of funny now). The wife and I are now yearly members. You can get discounts on other type of travel and even things like movie tickets. Anyway, just though I'd mention that also.

The Jaguar dealership in Cary is Leith Jaguar. I purchased our S-Type there and had all of the warranty work done there, but their service and parts prices are twice what Bob Dunn Jaguar in Greensboro charges so I refuse to go back to Leith Jaguar now. There is a well-respected independent shop in Durham called Flying Circus English Cars. Joel should call them, discuss his situation, and get some pricing estimates....

As we all know, these cars are NOT a good fit for the poor student type. If you don't have the funds to cover the higher parts costs and you cannot DIY, your wallet will be sucked dry in a heartbeat....

Ok, so I called Pep Boys and they supposedly said they had the upper radiator hose for $36.99. I went there this morning & it was the wrong type of hose. I figured out my insurance covers up to $100 of towing and got it towed to a Precision Tunes Autocare nearby because the labor there was the cheapest based off all the other companies I called. The problem is, I can't buy just the upper radiator hose. I need to buy the whole upper radiator hose assembly, which is supposed to come with the radiator hose, thermostat housing, the thermostat itself, and a gasket. It costs $225 at the dealership plus tax. I need help or suggestions of where I can get this for cheaper. As of now, eveything's gonna cost $472.49, and I don't have that money yet.

Joel, sorry buddy as we talked yesterday, thats about the best deal you are going to find. The part is dealer only as I explained to you, you are just going to have to bite the bullet on this one. The upper radiator unit part alone is $200.00 add the cost of antifreeze and the labor to repair, I was off by $22.49... (man guys I am getting good at this) I truly feel for you!

I'm having trouble seeing in your pic what is broken in that first one but would this happen to be what you are looking for from your description.

Scratch this just realized you had an 03. Is it possible to get a better pic of the actual pipe thats broken. Trying to see if its something that can be temp repaired till you can get the new one so you can at least drive for a little bit.

Sorry I didn't keep y'all up to date. Thanks y'all for your help and suggestions. I got my car fixed a week from today. Got my whole radiator hose assembly replaced. It was $524.67 plus an extra $27 for antifreeze engine coolant. It was sure a crazy process.

I honestly took it to Precision Tunes because their labor was the cheapest out of all places I checked nearby.
