I made a thread on the main page here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...-owner-141869/
But I figured I would make one here that I can use for updates and questions. I do most work and maintenance myself but this is a new platform for me.

There is a Vendor Directory under the 'Marketplace' drop down menu for forum sponsors, some of whom give discounts for forum members.

STR plugs are good for 100K miles. Has car done so much?

NGK IFR5N10 (iridium - do not use metal on electrodes and they come pre-gapped because thy are VERY easily damaged)

+1

Unlike rubber and plastic components on the vehicle, plugs do not deteriorate with age.

OK, go for it and change them

They're quite expensive but then they do last a long time. I found mine came out much better with a warm engine, but torqued new ones in when cold.

Yea as mentioned I'm at 99 so just to be sure I am doing them myself. I did a lot of reading here first before my purchase. Oil change coming as well but are there any other immediate things that should be attended to?

The whine is intoxicating and smile inducing.

If there is oil present in the spark plug wells, the cam cover gaskets and spark plug boss seals should be renewed following the procedure outlined in the JTIS Workshop Manual.

Not for me. Had car (STR 2004) over 6 years & 50K miles. Almost entirely routine maintenance, almost all DIY. Non-routine (arguable on our cars!) was DCCV, not exactly expensive.

Granted that petrol is costly...

Same here. I have found upkeep on mine to be rather ordinary. Mine is, after all, a 12 year old car and as such, certain components are wearing out. Sensors fail and need replacing. Rubber bushings and plastic components age, soften or get brittle and fail. There's nothing unusual about that. Overall, my car is in fabulous running order. For a 12 yr old car, it looks terrific - classic Jag looks on which people always compliment me. And it's a fun car to drive.

The trick is to address issues as they arise. Don't let minor problems fester into bigger, more costly ones (they rarely fix themselves).

My 2005 STR has been very cheap to maintain. Much to my surprise but as others have posted this is because I try to DIY everything I can.

It's been my daily driver for 6+ years and over 85K miles so I have a pretty good history with the car.

I am at 113K miles on the original under SC hose too!

What did you pay for your 100K mile 2005 STR?

My recent attempt at trading mine in only got a $3K offer which I thought was a bit low!

Welcome to the STR gang!

There are a lot of great people on this forum that are helpful "provided you do your homework prior to asking questions". Learn how to use the search tool as many issues have already been well documented.

STR Longevity:
Unless the previous owner neglected things, I'm sure you'll enjoy your new-to-you STR without much of a hit to your wallet. See if it is possible for you to get past service records--check the back of your Jag book/manual in your glove box.

PLUGS:
Platinum spark plugs are designed to last 120K miles and if you'd like to replace yours, PM me. I believe I have an additional NEW set and will give you a very good price.

DCC:
I've had my STR since it had 7K miles and I just installed the car's third DCC (1) Original (2) Ford YG-378 (3) Ford YG-378 at 92K miles.

Coolant Hose Under SC:
I changed the hose before 60K miles and it appeared to be good as new (both inside and out) and likely would've lasted for many more miles and many more years. I changed the SC gear oil at the same time as it was very easy to get to and inexpensive.

Brakes and Rotors:
All original rotors are still on my STR at 92K miles and likely need to be replaced but will check their thickness before doing so. All the original pads were replaced at 22K miles and they too need to be checked and are likely due for replacement. I have many cars and never had brakes last as long as they have on my STR…I drive aggressively (and race a lot) too. The STR's brakes are well engineered!

Enjoy your new STR.

I think that is the real key about the STR.

It's a bit out of date and many cars are faster now but the entire package was put together very well.

The lack of a locking diff is one glaring error but the rear suspension is awfully good and I get twin strips of rubber a lot of the time.

Of course then the stability/traction control kicks in! The car just revs like crazy when the tires start to turn.

Oil change coming this weekend. Does anyone switch to a heavier weight for the hot summer months? I figure with as much heat soak this engine bay has a thicker oil might be good.
