Default New S-Type Journey

Hello all,

Like I said in the intro section I will be picking up a 2002 s-type 3.0 with 118k on it next week. The plan is to transport it from PA up to Upstate NY via car dolly and get it on the lift and get it running!

A couple of quick questions.

Being that it's rwd I figure it's ok to dolly this vehicle, just want to ask and make sure that this won't be a problem. I'm a GM guy and don't know much about ford drive trains so I would figured I would ask the pros!

Known issues with this vehicle is hard shifting, which could be a bunch of things. First thing I plan on doing once it's on the lift is dropping the pan and checking the fluid to see if the transmission is even salvageable. If it is then I will diagnose accordingly and get it running. All he would say is that it shifts fairly hard and slams into gear. From other instances of the 5r55n issues on this site it seems like it has the more common of symptoms so I am hoping a flush, filter change and new solenoid pack will fix the issue if it is not the shifter cable.

Besides that he has had all but the front driver side window motors replaced, so I will have to repair that. Sounds like fun!!!

I will post pictures once it's home. Enlighten me with all of your Jaguar expertise!

Good luck!
When it's running, check fuel trims using OBD live data as they'll tell you about air leaks.

The diff won't care but the gearbox might not like the journey.
Driving the propshaft and trans without the engine running might damage the gearbox (no pump/lubrication).
Pulling it with the front wheels on the ground won't hurt but there is NO COLUMN LOCK to keep the wheels straight.

Things to consider.
