Default New Shocks

2002 S Type R

Hi can I ask is their a cheaper option other than the Sachs 311538 and are those right for my car please? It needs new rear top suspension arms aswel and I remember having a conversation about having the right bushes 'viced' in, that last a hell of a lot longer than standard. Can anyone help please?

hi
original rear shocks are bilstein, should be green, STR's have cats, active damping
as far as im aware only bilstein make replacements, Sachs wont be active, so you will get body faults and errors
also you can just replace the bushes in the suspension arms, buy car parts do all the bushes
nothing cheap on these, remember they were 50k new
fitting cheaper dampers is going to make it handle worse
cheers
Joe

just get the non adaptive bilstein greens all around and delete cats

cheap upper arms are like 30 bucks/20 pounds each. or you can get ones out of any crashed rwd jag up to the x351 and f-type

You can look up the original part numbers for your car using your VIN number and model on the official Jaguar on-line parts catalogue and then use that for a cross referance:

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/

For example I think Sachs 311538 has a cross referance to Jaguar part number XR811180 these are for cars up to vin number M45254 without adaptive suspension.
As far as I know all STR's have adaptive suspension, so these are not suitable for your car.
But please do make sure yourself. Do not take my word for it.

Mellow

I got a good deal on some Bilstein rear shocks for my car at Tirerack. They weren't the electronically adjustable ones though.

bet thats going to feel strange
the new rears wont be as stiff as the original ones, as the STR ones are uprated quite a bit
now the back ones are missing, the cats will have gone in to fault and the front will default to hard
would of stuck with oe ones myself
