Default New Shoes For My S Type

When I bought my S Type last summer, I forgot to check the sidewalls closely. The car was fitted with Continental ExtremeContact DW tires. Basically a summer tire, which made this past Chicago winter's driving pretty interesting. Even an adventure at times.

I decided that I need to replace them. After a lot of reading on various automotive websites and magazines, I'm going to take a pass on the usual types (the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ and the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06) and get the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady.

The WeatherReady is V rated, a wear rating of 700, traction and temperature are both A rated and they cost about the same at the Michelin and Continental tires. The thing that turned me to them is, it is one of the first all season tires to gain a winter tire rating (3PMSF).

I haven't bought them yet, so I guess I'm looking for input from others that have owned an S Type longer than me.

Thanks.

I sold my 2005 S-Type in May 2018 at just over 106,000 miles. I bought it in December 2008 at 18,000 miles. It came with a mediocre set of new Hankook Ventus tires installed by the Jaguar dealer. When they wore out I installed a set of Dunlop Sport Signature tires, and when they wore out I installed a set of Continental PureContact tires which turned out to be light years better than either the Hankooks or the Dunlops were. They came with a 70,000-mile warranty from Discount Tire and I bet the fellow who purchased the car from me will get many years and miles out of those tires....

I gave up on Goodyear more than 20 years ago due to the multiple sets of lousy Wrangler SUV tires that we had on multiple Jeep Grand Cherokees and a Dodge Durango back then. Expensive tires that were terrible in the rain, would hydroplane if you looked at them wrong, and rarely lasted more than 15,000 to 20,000 miles regardless of how well I took care of them. By the early 2000s I swore that I would never own another set of Goodyear tires and I have remained true to my word....

I hope the Goodyear tires you are considering are actually a decent product. Just be sure to do plenty of research before you opt to spend your hard-earned money for them. And take a good look at the Continental PureContact. It was a great bang-for-the-buck all-season tire when I installed the set on my S-Type back in late 2015 and it probably still is....

Last yr I put on a set of Cooper CS5. No winter driving but otherwise have been good. One thing I've noticed (like other new tires these days) is that the first 3-5 miles seem to have a bump. Kinda like the feeling you get from a flat spotted tire. (I drive new Hondas, Acuras, and other new makes and they all seem to do this).
Also, I had them Hunter road force balanced. That made a significant difference and now its silky smooth.
