Just picked up a 2005 or 2006 S Type R for $1000. i went to look at it they told me the cats was bad so the whole exhaust system was gone. They have the exhaust but it was off the car. I started it (barely) had a bad battery so had to jump it and it started right up. Had some codes like a couple cylinder misfire and multiple misfire and relay 2 for fuel pump. Engine sounded good and drove it around the parking lot. it was all good. Engine coolant was low but still could see it in the bottle. I had a x308 and i know the bad battery can bring up dumb codes. I don’t know if that’s the case for the x200. Looking forward to responses and being on this side of the forums!

Ali-

Welcome to the S Type forums!

In my opinion the STR has the perfect blend of stealth and performance.

$1000 bucks for a running car sounds like a deal. I'm looking forward to to seeing what you have purchased once you decode the VIN to determine the actual model year of the vehicle.

If you test drove it with open exhaust I'm sure it was obnoxiously loud? Low coolant could be something that may be simple or a nightmare unless you are good with fixing things.

With a good battery and proper cats/exhaust see if any codes flag (tell us) but if not check the fuel trims (hot engine, parked, at idle then about 2500rpm).

You can tell the model year by looking at end part of the vin number.
51N***** is a 05 model year STR.
61N***** is an 06 model year STR.

It is a good idea to ad your partial vin number to yout group signature. See my one below for an example.
This will help a lot with any diagnosis and you VIN number will be needed for any parts as they changed the parts quite a lot.

Also on the V8's the engine number is the date and time the engine was made! That is: Year (two digits) Month (two digits) date (two digits) Time (four digits)

Mellow
