New vs old brakes (S-Type R)
I picked up my new S-Type R (2006) yesterday and am about to swap the (aftermarket) exhaust from my old S-Type R (2003).
I love the face-lifted car but the new brake calipers are hideous; are they better than the old ones or just different?
Should I swap those over as well or...?

Jag changed from the Brembos and in the process changed to smaller discs at the front as well - and changed to vented at the rear I believe. So you can't just swap the calipers over.
If I'm right about the rears it will also affect the EPB......
I don't know enough to say whether you could safely swap all the relevant parts over but be sure to have a word with your insurers if you do the swaps!!

Your 03 STR has a much superior braking system (Brembo vs corporate) than the 06. As you also may be aware, the 03 also has front driving lamps, "R" stitched on the front seats, and no chrome exterior accents (commonly found on luxury, not sport sedans). Leave the 03 STR alone and sell her to someone who wants an 03 STR. Otherwise, congrats and enjoy your beautiful 06 STR.

It's an interesting idea and I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand.
I don't know if the ABS/DSC "knows" (is set up for) the characteristics of the newer brakes but it's the sort of thing to bear in mind - I'm guessing here though!
hmm, you're not a zillion miles from me and you're saying you have a ton of spares sitting around LOL
If you get lucky, a tech such as Brutal or xjrguy may chime in with thoughts about the swap....

Another thing you would have to switch over is the spindle cause you would need the Brembo mounting point on them. You would definitely have to repkave the rear spindles so you can get the 2 caliper mounting for the EPB and the Brembo. Probably alot more but if you have a complete car right there to just switch parts its probably just a matter of digging in and seeing whats different.

I like the Brembos as well but I don't know if it's been documented anywhere with comparison tests that the later style brakes are not as effective?
I do know that all of their current R models sport the later style caliper and humongous rotors as well. Those cars are carrying 510Hp so I would hope the brakes are really, really good.
I'm generally not a fan of the floating style caliper but does it stop any less effectively????

Doesn't have many toys in it though apart from telephone, Alpine premium sound; my new one is full of toys.

It was more or less a throw-away comment but..... it would be less obvious stuff probably. Fantastic source of spares, though quite a few won't fit your new one (under the skin changes as well as the ones you're well aware of). Strip it and sell them on ebay? The Alpine and satnav (if it has it) should sell and even the phone may (people keep mentioning that they want to retrofit).
I think your new car would be the same climate control module. Same coolant expansion tank - probably. Different EPB module (changed computer buses, otherwise same function I believe). And so on.
Maybe someone would want the whole car to do an engine rebuild (or indeed to part it out).

Where did you get the info about the superior braking? Butt dyno?
I was told Jag built them to meet or exceed Brembo's specs, Jag was tired of being hosed by Brembo on the price (so were the customers for replacement parts)I did front and rear for about $80.00 with no parking brake pads to replace or caliper to seize up.Take a look at the size they are very close and hard to see with the naked eye if there IS a size difference.
The 06 came with 400 hp so the brakes have to be good to stop the car as good as it does, the 03 390 hp....
They also dropped the fog lights to put oil coolers in their place for better cooling, somthing to do with getting 10 more hp.
The 06 came with the R stiched in the seats and no chrome on the exterior except for rear trunk piece. Maybe a FEW did but I have not seen any.
I know the 07 model had more chrome and looked like a regular S type. They were trying to rid themselves of left over parts before the end of he S type run.
Take a closer look at the car before you judge.

Brakes and hp
There are threads here discussing the superior braking of the 03 over the 06. Jaguar didn't have a problem with Brembo, just winding down inventory and cost effectiveness. Though the 06 came with electronic camshaft timing differential, there was a un uprating of hp due to Jaguar adopting newer power measurement principles.
