Question New Wheels and Tires

Hi guys, it looks like I might be taking delivery of my S-Type in a few weeks! I think it comes with 17" wheels. I want to upgrade it to the OEM 18" wheels and new tires. Can I do it?

These are the wheels that come with the car (that's my actual car):

These are the ones I want to install (for illustration only--not my car):

Also, what size tire do I need? Tire Rack's website is saying 245/40R18. Is that correct?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Jose,

Bigger S-Type OE wheels are fine. If going smaller, you need to make sure that the wheels clear the brakes.

245/40R18 is correct on at least 8" wide rims. Some wheel designs were also used on X-Types but with a narrower width as they used a narrower tyre, so check before buying.

Load rating of 93 (a version in this size, iirc) might be borderline for an S-Type. 95 plus is safe.

Enjoy the new car,
Neil

The wheel in your second photo is an 18" 'Triton' wheel.
The part number for these is XR8 31513. They are the same front and rear and not suitable for the STR that had wider wheels on the back.

As mentioned above you need to be sure that they are S-Type wheels as our cars have an unusual offset for the wheels, not all jaguar wheels will fit and some will hit on the brakes.

See this link for the later S-type Accessories catalogue that you can view and download, it shows you all the wheels :

Hi guys, thanks for your replies!

The Triton wheels I'm looking at are supposed to be OEM. I'm going to confirm before I buy.

I found two tires I'm looking at. Both have great reviews, but have very different pricing:

Kuhmo Ecsta at Pep Boys $374 for 4
Vredestein Quatrac Pro at Tire Rack $670 for 4

Neil, thanks for the load info! That helped me take one option out. Both of these above are load rated at 97.

Mellow, thanks for the accessories catalog. I'm salivating! LOL! :-)

Yep, those wheels are from an S-Type and will be fine.

Tyres are a personal choice and my view is that the average user with limited hands-on experience provides poor objective opinions.

I expect you have seen this test: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=244

See if you can find a few more similar tests and buy the best tyre you feel happy to pay for. You get the benefits every time you drive the car

Hi guys, I got the wheels! I found them locally so I jumped on buying them even though I won't have the car until later this week. They are in perfect condition and came with center caps! They also came with tires: two of them with Yokohama YK580 and the other two with Continental PureContact, all of them 245/40R18. I want to say they all have 70% or better thread. Assuming the tires are good (I'll know when I have them installed), I think I'm going to leave those tires on for a little bit (unless they look horribly different after I put them on) as there are other projects I have in mind! :-)
