New Wolf's Head ATF for ZF Transmissions only $5.88/qt
I was in the Advanced Auto store and I noticed that Wolf's Head is making a new ATF that is compatable with ZF Transmissions it's only $5.88/quart! I had the counter man pull out their Wolf's Head factory manual to double check guaranteed compatability. Looked offical to me, after all the posts about this fluid worth its wait in gold I'm having trouble believing this. Has anyone used Wolf's Head AFT?
Thanks,
Bob

Just perused the Wolf's Head website (wolfshead.com), and saw that their synthetic ATF meets the Shell M1375.4 specs required by ZF. Also saw that it is compatible with the 5-speed ZF, but saw no references to the 6-speed ZF that those of us with 2003-and-newer S-Types have. I will e-mail Wolf's Head and ask them directly if they have a new product that meets the 6-speed ZF's requirements. Stay tuned....

Specs for new Wolf's Head Synthetic ATF
Here are the specs from the Wolf's Head website:
http://www.wolfshead.com/specsheets/...lsynthetic.pdf
Note the Jaguar AF 5HP24 Transmission is listed. But the AF6HP26 is not.
So the AF6HP26 is used on 2003 and newer? Is it much different than the AF5HP24?

New News from Wolf's Head
Just called Wolf's Head Oil company and spoke to their Senior Product Specialist, he told me that their synthetic oil is completely compatable with the Jaguar ZF6HP26 Trans as well as the ZF5HP24! But he wanted to be certain and double check with their chemist, he called me back 10 minutes later and said they would stand behind their ATF for the ZF6HP26 trans. The Wolf's Head Synthetic ATF has Shell LA 2634 cert wich translates to a Lifeguard 6 is can be used in Jaguar S 2003 as well as BMW 745i 5,6 and 7 speed transmissions (Is this the same trans as the S ?) This stuff is only $5.88 per quart retail!

Good news! Though, I don't really see how it can be suitable for both the ZF 6HP26 and 5HP24, as the oil specs are different.
Various BMWs use the 6HP26 (and have "the lurch" too).
The Aston Martin DB9 and Maserati Quattroporte use the same box, and I understand the Ford 2005 Explorer also does. (There are others, too.)

Perhaps the synthetic ATF can meet the specs of many different mineral and petroleum based ATF's? I don't know. It was easy to get ahold of people that sounded like they knew what they are taking about...a human being answers the phone! I'm going to buy a new pan and O ring thngy kit and a case of this oil, print out the instructions from this forum and let my mechanic change the fluid in the 2004 S. It has developed a squeek when it upshifts.

Question...if an oil is spec'd for the 6hp, then would it be good for the 5hp? That is, going from a "higher" level of usage to a "lower" level.
Also....if an oil is good for the 5hp, then it may not necessarily be good for the 6hp ??? That is, going from a "lower" level to a "higher" level.
Or did I just cornfuse the hell out of myself???

You can easily backflush the filter. And why they should be prone to warping and cracking is beyond me as they are made of substantial plastic. I've not heard of anyone with a cracked one or a warped one.
