Hi.
Not new to Jags by any means but just got my first S Type; 4.2 V8 in metallic black with ivory trim, 48,000 miles.
Looking forward to it not letting me down immediately!
Main problem at the moment is the external temperature gauge reading 127F; I know that it has been hot but that seems a bit excessive.

Hey Steve, welcome to this end of the board! Loads of info in the "How to" guide here. Most with pretty color pictures .
Between you and Karl, our sides will be splitting daily!
Oh hey, I didn't want to be the first to tell you though. Your steering wheel is on the wrong side of the vehicle. But as Cousin Eddie would say from National Lampoons Christmas, "She's a beaut Clarke"! Welcome aboard

You did well. Nice colour combination. Looks like it has seen a bit of love in its life and has the premium sound as well. Enjoy!
Very few cars designed in the mid to late 90's still look this good. Its a design that has aged very well. I have said it before, a credit to the late Geoff Lawson and his team. These guys did an amazing design job across the whole Jaguar range at the time, incorporating the Jaguar DNA that seems to have been sorely missing of late. Unfair to just point the finger at Ian Callum after the beautiful XK update and gorgeous F Type but hopefully Julian Thompson can come up with a sexy departure from some of the recent mundane, bland and anonymous sedan designs that could have come out of lesser brands.

Thanks for the welcome.
I haven't driven it far yet but seems to go quite well with no clonks or bangs from underneath.
A few niggles obviously but that was reflected in knocking £700 off the asking price.
Vanity mirror lights not working, outside temperature readout (new sensor already ordered), a/c a bit weak, little things like that.
There looks to be a brake imbalance at the back as the discs are quite rusty and one side seems to have a much bigger pad contact area than the other one; stops straight though.
Need to get the electric polisher out and give it a good mopping to bring the depth back to the shine but I will wait until it is not so sunny.
I also need to modify the garage door very slightly so that I can close it properly!

I heard it's been hot there. 32 Celsius (90 F) is a bit high. We get a handful of 43+ C (110F) days here each summer which I just can't wait for..
The vanities are notorious for breaking, hopefully its just a bulb. They're not very bright anyway, maybe try some LED versions. My AC was weak as well and I thought it may have been the sensors in the system (Ford part) but just needed a re-gas; excellent AC track record, its first re-gas in 15 years.
I'm just about to give mine it's annual claybar treatment.

There is a "How To" on the S Type homepage about adding R134a refrigerant. If that does not work, I believe in the AC compressor replacement DIY I did years ago, explains about a valve spring inside compressor that needs to be reversed. I believe there is a TSB.
Rear brake pistons screw back into caliper not pushed, be advised.
In "How To" there is a thread how to properly remove vanity mirror from visor if needed. Be careful those flaps and mirror plastics are very brittle. There is a fix for a broken flap too.
Nothing about getting your steering wheel put back on the correct side, I am sorry to say.

For your AC system, here's a troubleshooting guide, includes details on the compressor valve mod if needed, etc.:
