Default Newbie saying Hi

I just bought a 2003 S-type R. (Sorry the pic is so big!)

I've always wanted a Jaguar but never owner one before. It's 20 years old. I'm probably in over my head. Hope to learn from you folks.

Welcome to the Forum. Wow, quite the car! Someone spent some time and money on that one. Do you have any other pics? It looks like the hood is louvered. Any history from the previous owner?

I have a stock 2005 STR.

Looks gorgeous. If it's been maintained as well as it looks, I doubt you are in over your head. Welcome to the forum.

From one S-type owner to another... Welcome. The S-type forum is populated with a very friendly group and contains a wealth of knowledge.

Default Thanks for the hello!

It is nice, but needs a little work here and there. I don't have records. Story goes, it was purchased by a car collector (Bob) in 2003 with 4.6K miles on it. Supposedly, he had 200 (?) cars, so this one didn't get driven much, reaching 9.8K miles in early 2018. He did do some mods along the way, but I don't know what all they were. Sadly, it appears that Bob died in the fall of 2018. The car went into his trust and was rarely driven. It had 10,450 miles when I bought it. The CarFax suggests there was no odometer tampering before Bob died. I've attached a few more pix.

It does have hood louvres. Thinking of painting the headlight surrounds black.

Oh, second day of driving it I misjudged distances and bumped into one of those concrete parking lot stops. The front valence just disintegrated. (Suggestions for a replacement front valence would be appreciated!)

The rear looks sweet but you'll notice a nasty gash on the bumper.

I'm having the tires replaced tomorrow (the old ones have a 2003 date code).Next week I'll have it thoroughly inspected to find out how F'ed I am.

Thank you for your interest! I already learned something: STR = S-Type R.

Thanks! I'm probably not in over my head (I've budgeted some money to cover repairs). But I have a lot to learn.

Friendly and knowledgable? What more could one want from a car forum? (Actually, free t-shirts would be really cool!)

Try autoreserveparts in the UK. I have had great luck with them for my 06 str. Last thing i got was a mint demister panel under the windshield for 120.00 delivered. In my needed color even. If you do not know the part name for sure they are very helpful by phone or email. Their shipping is fantastic. Both packaging and price

Aren't the headlight surrounds stickers? I'd consider removing them. They look quite nice without them.

Stickers? I don't know. They should be black, right?

Most of the S-types I've seen don't have them. Why give a beautiful car spectacles? I think perhaps your car's previous owner went accessory crazy. It's a terrible affliction that has carried away many a doting car lover. If you come across someone with this illness, they are to be pitied, not shunned. They can't help it. Having said that, he chose some nice wheels!

My car looks nice enough without them.

Yes the STR's got black headlight surrounds and that model was the only one to get them. All other S-Types have the chrome surround as pictured above. Even the ones that had the factory HID option like the STR's.
I broke my passenger headlight on my old 2005 STR and had a time finding a black surround version. They are out there!

Cool trailer. I haven't got one of those but I have a Jackuar mascot.

My Jackuar leaper. She loves to travel on or between the front seats, front paws on the armrest, so she can see out of the window.

Daisy the Jack Russell terrier.
