Default newby here...Need Help and Advice 2001 S Type

I am considering purchasing a 2001 S Type. the car looks really good but there is one hitch. it needs a motor. it has the 4.0 ltr in it now. i have heard rumors that the lincoln motor will bolt right in. i dont know that for fact. i am hoping some experts here can chime in on my motor options as to what will fit. im searching for a replacment motor and cost before purchase. thanks for any info or advice

The Lincoln motor is a 3.8L and will probably be no cheaper than the correct Jaguar engine.

Google is your friend.. and you actually want to find the 3.9 l motor.

Here’s a complete motor with less than 100K miles for $2k.

Here’s one with 150K miles for $1,500.00

There were also tons of threads on the conversion too..

Hope that helps and best of luck..

TDC.

I agree... Get the 4.0...Honestly they are the same engine... The 3.9 is NOT a Ford engine but just a detuned Jaguar engine....

Oh, BTW, it is called the 3.9 in the US.

Thanks for all the responses. it sounds like a lincoln motor would fit then??? i did find a "P" code 4.0 ltr nearby froma wreck for $2500. idk but i think when you use the word jaquar to describe anything the price goes up 25%. so a 3.9 lincoln motor would bolt right up???? am i describing that right?

Matt, I'm sure the 01 "S" looks nice and all. And popping in a junk yard 3.9 may be do-able vis a vis could be a pain in the *** just the same.... Why not seek out an 03 or later "S" (4.2 litre 310 hp) or STR (4.2 litre 400 hp)? They're affordable, engines have more power and durability, and redesigned suspension components.

Caution - if you put in anything but a very similar year and engine to what's there now be sure to check which modules, sensors etc you also need to change. Otherwise, expect at best anti-theft lockout to trigger and at worst no module communications (and no start).

Default X2 that JagV8

Couldn't have put it clearer. Though there may be threads explaining the swap in detail, this doesn't gaurantee availability and compatibility of mechanical and electrical components, plus the overall cost of the project (car + donor engine + parts + labor= big bucks) vs ready to go, superior, and affordable 03-08 S-Type 4.2 or S-Type R. On the other hand if ya think yer up to a swap you have our blessings and support.

All pevious posts are helpful, I wouldn't try to adapt anything but a 2001 Jag motor- just way too much trouble. For close to the same money, look for an 03 or later. Its a much improved car: better dash and interior, aluminum suspension, and a MUCH improved engine, espec. the V-8. They can be bought around here really worth the money. I recently bought an 03 V-6 manual with 49,000 miles for under $10K.
