Hello im thinking of buying a 2005 diesel S Type it has starting problems any common faults with this engine??......................Mike

Hey Mike, welcome to the forums.

I am not sure how many posts you will receive on the diesel variant here. They were not offered to the North American market.

You may want to post up a similiar thread in the "Diesel" subsection.

I always wondered why we never got more diesels here. Hopefully that will start to change.

Er... careful what you wish for

Extra things to check for on the diesel are listed on similar threads on the UK forum. (Sticking turbos, failings MAFs (yes has two), DPF, coolant into autobox, problems with oil-fired heater, sorry can't recall the others.) Be sure you do plenty of miles and often if it has a DPF (most do) or risk engine destruction (sadly I'm not joking - see threads on UK forum).
