i recommend trying to get this car to run. even if it barely runs. drive it to the dealer, and trade it in. or tow it around the corner to the dealer, and drive it in. on a newer year model or same year, but overall get rid of the car and let the dealerhandle repairing the trade in.

smart people do it all the time.

I would still get a second oppinion on this supposedly dead motor. Reguardless of how bad it is there's usually allways a way to get a motor started. Has anyone been able to tell you what's actually wrong with it ? Did it seize up or was it turning when it quit. Is there coolant in the oil or does the oil look burnt? Personally, I would be under the hood looking for and trying anything to get it going. it's hard to believe that a motor would quit and never run again unless it's frozen.

ORIGINAL: shaguarBILL80

I just bought a 2001 Jaguar S-Type with 60k on it and I absolutely love it, and thank god I got the extended 3 years from Carmax. A few weeks later the gearbox went. Would have cost me 1500 for the part alone. Didn't cost me a penny and im covered until 96k or 36 months. So its always good to get those extended warranties. Especially on a jag because the parts are not cheap (which is probably not news to most of you ). I think I paid an extra $1500 plus I still have another 35 months in front of me. Thats better than a new engine for 10k If I were you I would try and get an extended warranty. Yeah its up but not by that much. Its at least worth a shot.
I don't mean to hijack this thread, but did you purchase your car from carmax and get the extended warranty or did you just get the extended warranty through carmax? I'm shopping around for extended warranty, this is why I'm asking, thanks.

Momo, not sure if this will respond to you or the entire thread (guess I'm about to find out eh?)

Wheneveryou purchase a car at Carmax, at the time of closing the deal, you have an option topurchase an extended warranty (about $1900.00 USD for 3 years / 36K mi.) Well worth it for a Jag. I know that you can't renew the warranty thru CarMax, but I'm really not sure where you can purchase another similar warranty.

There are many independent company's that offer extended warranties but they are not cheap. However the piece of mind is priceless! I was offered one for about 2500.00 with a 50.00 deductable per occurance. I think it was for 3 yrs or 36000 mi. I turned it down because I still have Select Edition coverage for another year.

1 "Second" of overheating isn't going to seize an engine. I had a 88 Honda Prelude that I ran hot for at least 30 miles over 200 degrees and nothing happened, not even a hairline headgasket crack. So this "I let the car cool and drove it to a mechanic and now it won't do anything" bit sounds a little fishy to me. There's something else that happened well before this. Unless your temperature gauge hasn't been accurate for months, but how UNLIKELY is THAT?!

I'm sorry but I smell bullshit. I'm 23, and i've owned 6 cars, and I can tell you thata car just doesn't die for no reason at 50k miles. Do you drive it like a madman, did you smell coolant before hand, white smoke, notice the temperature gauge going towards the red, more than just that "one time"...So, my friend, are you sure you're telling us the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help your Jaguar?

I didn't think so...

Maybe if you told us everything, we could help you. Otherwise, you might as well be singing to the choir.

BTW, I'd go after the mechanic if you sincerely don't think you caused this. That just may be your culprit.
