noisy steering wheel
hello everybody
i've recently noticed my car makes a ugly noise (crrrr) when i use my steering wheel. it always occurs when i turn very slowly, right or left and when i drive slowly too.
- ugly sound like: crrrr or criiin
- always at the very beginning of turning, when the wheels get a small angle the noise stops.
- right or left
- only if i turn the wheel slowly
- at low speed only (but i think it's because i can't hear the sound in highway because of others sounds (wind, motor, etc)
- power steering wheel oil level is ok
do you have any ideas? thx you !

There are posts about noising steering wheel issues.
The link below from Grant Francis recommends replacing the power steering fluid and has his procedure to do this job.
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...-noise-121951/
"the Power Steer fluid is "special" and I use Penrite PAS, whish is Green, and exactly the Spec for the Ford rack in our early cars. Mine had ATF when I got it, and steering was lousy/noisey/etc, and now after 4 syringe out and top off, is SWEET." quoted from Grant as sent to me.
If you don't have Penrite in your part of the world. I believe Dexron IV is appropriate. But it is worth checking, or someone may post the early s type power steering fluid specs.

edit: i forgot to mention that jaguar has made a diagnostic before and they said to me that i had to change left vertical link.
i took a look under the car a few days ago and i took thoses pictures. what do you think about ?
i ve also noticed that since jaguar inspected my car, the noise has almost totally disapeared ! i very often can't hear it anymore so i don't know if i can trust them when they say me that i have to change my vertical link because "it's very dangerous to drive in that situation" blablabla...
